I think Weisass probably has figured out that Cat would not sign back with Orlando, or it is more likely that he decided to help the team in the short run by getting something they deperately lack - defense - and at the same time decided that Mobely would demand too much dineros, and the Magic were not willing to waste their money. Either way, I guarantee you Mobley won't get a penny over $7 mill, but probably will be offered something around $5-$6 million a year, he is just not worth more than that. If Quentin Richardson and Maggette signed for around $6-$7 mill each, Mobley won't get more than that. --Tiger
If it is for Christie, not knowing what Chritie's contract is, I think it's a good deal for the Magic. The Magic needed someone else besides Francis, Hill and Nelson that can get assists, the Kings I guess needed more scoring??? I dunno... Christie's a good ballhandler/passer/shooter/defender, Mobley's a good scorer/defender.
I wouldn't trade Cuttino for JJ lol. I wouldn't trade Cuttino for Christie either but I guess Mobley isn't gonna return so yeah they got an OK player in return. I hope Mobley will play well with the Kings. ...damn him Bibby Peja
This actually would not surprise me on Orlando's front. Orlando is looking for more DEFENSE from the perimeter. They have scoring with Hill, Turkgolu and Francis. I think they like Mobley, but they are looking for more veteran leadership and defense. They already have Augmon on their team but perhaps they want an upgrade with Christie. As for the Kings, perhaps they make this move to give them the scoring they are going to miss with Bobby Jackson out for the season? I would be very interested to see Mobley worked into the Kings Princeton offense.
Also, when I checked to see if Mobley really wasn't playing I noticed that Francis has only played 4 minutes against the Celtics and he only has one foul. Did he get hurt? Ejected?
Agreed! I would guess Mobley would get something similar to what Stephen Jackson of Indiana got this last offseason which was around 6M a season, something a bit over the MLE.
Magic trade Cuttino to Kings per ESPN 790 for Doug Christie. It looks like Cuttino is going to be in the playoffs in the West.
good trade for the Kings IMO with Christie's poor O and Bobby Jackson gone for the year, the Kings need another perimeter scorer to compliment Peja I see Cat thriving
Wow, I was wondering why he wasn't in the lineup today...wish I had not traded him from my fantasy basketball team...but I picked up Hedo, could pay off!
So he decides to pay Christie 8 million next year for sure. Ummkay... Christie makes around 2 mill more than Mobley this year, so if reports are true, the Magic also threw in a cheap player or two. FWIW, Mobley is a significantly better 3 point shooter than Christie. Take a look at the number of attempts and the percentages these two shot over the last 4 years or so. It's not really particularly close. Christie's a better rebounder, passer, and is tougher. My guess is it's the last of those things that Weisbrod likes the most. His defense isn't THAT much better than Mobley's; sure didn't help stop the New Orleans backcourt from going nuts a couple nights ago. (Davis- 26-17-10, JR Smith 23 points).
This makes Sac-Town really deadly from outside...Peja, Mobley, Bibby...three outstanding 3-point shooters...that is the kind of supporting cast someone like Yao Ming should have.
Weis-ass strikes again. They're making this trade for defensive purposes, but was Cuttino really that bad for them? (unlike half the board... I haven't been following the Magic). I know he was one of our better defensive players last year, and I only wish we could have found a way to keep him. As much as he dislikes JVG... he's the perfect player for his system: athletic, great man-on-man defender, and can hit an open shot. At least we'll now see whether the long-standing myth will come true... once Steve and Cuttino are not together, Francis will go into some serious depression and decide to take up kite-flying or some other utter crap.
Just announced on the game. Cat and Michael Bradley for Doug Christie. Man, the Magic must really like Christie.
