Just spoke to an inside source in Denver: He said Anthony will definitely sign some sort of paperwork this year for some team in the Continental US...

Denver Post - Nuggets threatening to trade Anthony to Nuggets on a rental if New York doesn't increase their offer.

The Knicks have nothing to give. Whatever they have, Denver can get as part of a sign and trade this summer anyways.

Making a playoff run this year, & taking a chance Melo resigns with the Nuggets
    >

making a deal early for the sake of getting back something in return of value which the Knicks dont have anyways.

-They will get better assets in return as a result of trading Nene to the Rockets if they are going to trade Melo before the deadline.

-However if the Nuggets make a side deal to bring in talent to help their roster this season and keep Melo for a playoff run then Melo will almost have to sign the extension with the Nuggets.

-If all else fails you should still be able to sign and trade him to the Knicks in the offseason for virtually the same pieces in return. Wilson Chandler/or Danilo Gallinari and maybe Randolph.

-It makes the most sense to me , if its New York or bust, to keep Melo till the summer and make a side trade during the deadline to help them contend this year and make a playoff run.

I still think Puerto Rico has a shot - he has roots there. No way Wyoming gets him before PR!

More to the point....why accept and pay Eddy Curry (plus luxury tax) for the rest of the year when you could instead play out the year with a small playoff run behind Anthony, and then get a TE instead of Curry in the summer?

Boom shakalaka. Zactly. That's precisely why NY is trying to rope in Minny to take Curry. The Rockets are a much more attractive option to that if Denver feels they have to move him. We can create a $17 TPE using Yao's contract, not to mention get them out of the luxury tax altogether.

Yao's contract grows in value each day we draw closer to the deadline.

Whatever assets the Nuggets want from the Rockets, they are more than likely offerred in a separate deal for Nene or those assets are interchangeable. Its well known that the Rockets have already offerred a package of something around Hill, expiring contract of Battier, Jefferies for Nene.

Since the Rockets have recently fallen further from the pack in the playoff race I believe they have changed their stance with Denver in the Melo dealings since they would need to make a playoff run THIS YEAR in order to have a shot at keeping Melo. The offer stands because we have to take a shot in the dark at getting a superstar, but its just probably not going to happen.

I still believe they have an offer for him for the sake of having an offer, probably it is probably something centered around Yao's expiring contract and a pick, but you might be surprised that at this point, their target being realistic is Nene since Melo is most likely to be dealt to the Knicks or nowhere till the summer.

-I also still believe that the Nuggets best card is to play out the season with Melo when they could still trade Melo if an extension will not happen definitely. In that case they need to keep Nene this season, and the Rockets need to start dealings now for another alternative at the center position.

-If Melo gets traded, the Rockets want to be first in line to secure a deal for Nene.

I feel like players today are afraid of competition so they feel the need to team up. After the trio signings in Miami, I know Melo will sign with the knicks in order to team up with Amare. When that happen, I know CP3 is right behind them and most likely sign on board along with Melo and Amare.

How would that affect the whole NBA? It will force future generations into doing the same thing by teamming up with other stars instead of battling against each other. I've seen some rumors about Dwight Howard saying that if the Magic don't win a championship this season, he will climb on board with either the Lakers or the Knicks. I wonder how that would be fair to all the other teams who doesn't have the luxury of a big name to lure in big players.

How do the Rockets create a $17 TPE using Yao's contract?

Title teams have always consisted of great players being paired up. The only difference here is players are doing it on their own as opposed to waiting around for their teams/mgmt to bring talent in, something some teams suck at doing (i.e. Denver in this case). No one is afraid of competition. Maybe they are just tired of wasting their time on teams that don't have enough help to win with.

Didn't the Nuggets bring in Finals MVP Billups to pair him up with Anthony?
