The only possible positive result is to motivate the secular voters to vote in bloc for secular candidates. What are the demographics?

@POTUS: all parties in Turkey should support democratically-elected Gov't of Turkey, show restraint, avoid violence

Unbelievable that Obama endorses Erdogan, but not surprising.

Lets just wait and see the result. I don't think this will automatically turn Turkey into some Saudi style religious dictatorship or some failed state like Syria. Turkey has its own history and norms that define what it is.

I think the doom and gloom is a bit over the top at this stage.

He's hedging his bets. In fact every country is issuing similar statements. Even the opposition parties in Turkey (including the secular parties) are against the coup. The coup might fail so its better to hedge your bets.

Back the winner after he won, it's just good politics.

But the POTUS can never be publicly in favor of coup de tat.

If only Maury had been with the Rockets a lot longer, then he would have drafted that douche and nobody would have to deal with Erdogan now.

Dependent on a free press....if Erdogan is in control of it, would you really think it is free?

I believe you agree with me, Erdogan was dismantling opposition voices and the courts that would rule against him.

What does it matter if it's the military or Erdogan if the press is not free either way? The coup immediately invaded most of the news outlets.

...where Erdogan had removed free journalists and installed his propagandists. Nobody in the world jailed more journalists than Erdogan.

So it makes sense to remove Erdogan's propagandists if you are staging a coup. That should be so obvious.

Of course, you being a fellow Islamist, you are an Erdogan fan.

you always want to try to control the popular perception in a conflict. If everyone thinks you are winning, you are winning, until you lose
