So far the leader of the navy and the general of the first turkish army batallion have gone public condemning
Cnn turk says the army who invaded swat head quarter have been caught.
Also anatolia says that the leader of the coup is a retired general.

yes it is, they are not trained soldiers. that is wrong to ask someone to basically commit suicide.

It seems that the military will lose and erdogan win. Many army beheadings coming.

The information out right now is from and by the people opposed to the coup, the coup perpetrators are not issuing situation reports just yet, their physical occupation might still work

It's a PR war that is being spun. But if large umbers of civilians are shown dying then yes it's going to Erdogan.

It seems the hostage army general has been released and the leader of the military coup has given himself up.

    LOL!

So what happens when a military imposes a dictatorship? You bend over and take it in the ass?

People shouldn;t be told to go out and commit violence, but they should go out and resist.

They are not but someone has to protect democracy u know. Either now or through resistance. When there is noone its up to the citizens. Better at the beginning than to sit for the junta to established itself. What experience u have anyway on juntas?
My parents were fighting against one. Someone has to do smth because there is noone who will.

Wow a f16 has shot down a helicopter of the military coup.

If this coup fails it'll result in a full blown Islamic dictatorship in Turkey.

Yep, if you dismantle newspapers and disband the Courts, I'm not on your side

Democracy is absolutely dependent on a free press and rule of law, if you don't have them, you only have a sham democracy. People can't make good decisions with bad information.

So you are not on Erdogan's side, right?

Exactly. That's one of the reasons this coup is justified. But I'm afraid it will fail and, like Bobbythegreat says, will result in a full-blown Islamist dictatorship, even worse than before.

Im going to sleep. I looked nkw to americans and british media and they seem to think that things are still up in the air but from what im hearing from local media its all over and erdogan won.
Also the usa has phoned 20 mins ago and say they support erdogan which is clear proof of who has won.

the coup is protecting real democracy. the erdogran's democracy currently in place is not a real democracy. it's actually some of the least democratic ideas possible.

Im talking about generally coups not this one.
Besides things can be worse with the kemalists. They are too aggresive. At least for me even i despise erdogan i prefer him to ...u know ..war.

The internet (particularly in a country as developed as Turkey) makes it so much harder to pull off these types of moves.

I expect the military to be neutered after this whole affair. This could very well be Turkey's last coup. Everyone is hedging their bets and denouncing the whole thing which is probably a sign that this is going nowhere.

Disaster. Coup appears to have failed. It was orchestrated by a cleric living in the United States lol.

USA has openly supported erdogan now.

It's over and erdogan will crack down hardcore on secular institutions
