It tells me that ignorant people - the majority of Arabs is uneducated and blindly following a medieval, non-sensical ideology without questioning it - like Erdogan.

You close the door and sweep silently ..

But had a majority behind him and would've been elected sooner or later in that unstable time. President von Hindenburg had no other choice.

Since we're there anyway, this smells a lot like Reichstag fire. Over 2500 judges have been discharged overnight, some state attorneys too. They also want to bring back death penalty and change the constitution.

Don't know enough to take any sides. Just hoping Turkey don't move backward and actually move forward.

The only chance of that happening was if the military fully backed the coup and worked to restore secular democracy and move away from Islamic dictatorship. Since the coup failed, Turkey is going to get a lot more backwards quickly.....and of course nutjobs like Exiled and Mathloom are thrilled about it. The more backward a country, they more they like them

Looks like the US military may have to withdraw all troops in Turkey, evacuate all nuclear warheads, and rescind all weapons contracts with Turkey.

[rQUOTEr]Turkish PM: Any country that stands by cleric Gulen will be at war with Turkey

Any country that stands by the Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen will not be a friend of Turkey and will be considered at war with the NATO member, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday.

The government said that followers of Gulen, who has been living in self-imposed exile in the United States for years, were behind the attempted coup by a faction of the military on Friday.

The government accuses Gulen of trying to build a "parallel structure" within the judiciary, education system, media and military as a way to overthrow the state, a charge the cleric denies.

He also throws Ms Turkey into prison for posting a selfie.

I mean the guy is clearly oppressive - finding a few exceptions doesn't excuse his clampdown on the media and power grabs he has been making as President (which is suppose to be a ceremonial role).

Isn't it a pretty secular country? There is hope.... just hoping it goes one way and not the other.

8 military coup conspirators boarded a helicopter and fleed to greek part of Trace (in the north over the border) to ask for asylum because they claim they are facing death but were arrested and will be sent back.

I think Erdogan is a dangerous man but nonetheless I am glad and happy that the coup failed. Why? Because the other option is known what it brings. War.
You are all acting here like the junta is the solution. What do you know about what the military does in Turkey? Everytime they have the power they are overaggresive and attack their neighbours.

For years the military has ensured that Turkey has stayed secular.....and that's why Erdogan has been going after them. He's been pushing the country more and more towards becoming an Islamic dictatorship and stripping power from the military and that's why part of the military attempted a coup in order to stop him. With the failed coup and the neutering of the military that is to come, nothing will be able to stop Erdogan.

Basically the coup was the last chance the country had and it failed.

even Sant.Obama murdered XXXX no. of people. There are a few things I'm disappointed in Erdogan such as : not forcing Hamas to reconcile with PA. or lack of decisive political position on Iran ,Israel,Assad etc, or not making a peace with Kurds ...but everyone knew deep states can limits his ability

Back in the 80s when my family used to visit Turkey, families were selling their children because they can't feed them...

Now it's projected to be top 10 economy globally ...

Don't you live in a rentier state? Your opinion doesn't even matter in your own country, so why should anyone else pay attention to it when it comes to what a country is or isn't doing right?
