Except for the little things like defense and rebounding.

Landry dunked a lot his first year because Yao drew doubles. His jumper wasn't big time until really his second year, though the announcers would talk it up his first year saying he could hit them in practice.

Landry made big plays into the playoffs and was competitive. His lack of size limited his rebounding. He was a beast in terms of bench players.

Landry has DRIVE. The guy's attitude is what leads to many Rockets fans to love him. I don't see that in any of our current players tbh.

That is what set him apart.

Actually he dunked a lot when Yao went out too. During the streak he was our biggest scorer off the bench and to T-mac's credit he was really good at finding him. I still remember the Dallas game...pure beauty on Landry's part...

Unfortunately he doesn't have the post game Landry had.

So 2Pat has all the negatives and none of the positives.

Landry had several really good veteran big men in front of him to help his development. Yao, Mutumbo and even though they came in at the same year, Scola from his years professional overseas probably helped Landry gel over the various aspects of his game which would go on to make him the very good player he was and based on some Golden State games I've seen still is.

Right now we don't have that and with Scola gone (honest I was hoping Motiejunas could learn from him) there is no one on the actual roster that could be said has better then average NBA post moves, with the sad thing being that Motiejunas possibly being one of the best we have.

I'm very critical of Patterson (mainly his apparent lack of fire and rebounding), but he does have more range than Landry, and a better midrange and long jumper. He is also a slightly better defender.

But overall, I would much prefer having Landry.
