Thank you so much Mr. Barton for apologizing and standing up for people who have been completely unfairly accused and can't defend themselves. You've got my vote for a lifetime.

Poor guy, torn between feeling sorry for his oil buddies and protecting the interests of the people and state of Texas. Must have been a tough choice.

What the heck does "Yusef Hussein" have to do with this thread? Is that the rep's real name or is that supposed to be some oblique commentary on another thread?

^^^How do folks take this group seriously? No wonder rational folks are fleeing the GOP in droves.

No, Max, think of the Nevada senator in The Godfather (was it part two? can't recall), who flipped from bigot to the most ardent supporter of Italian Americans when it became in his interest to do so.

Why is this even remotely suprising - the GOP had no qualms about trying to block financial regulatory reform after the worst, completely human-engineered disaster in world history that wrecked millions of lives, and now has no qualms about taking up the side of the oil industry after they created the worst man-made environmental catastrophe in history.

Boehner et al are simply qualmless at this point and really shouldn't ever be taken seriously by anybody - it's a shame the media actually does.

They have interest in obtaining power, so that they can transfer it to their masters. Governing? Which involves hard choices and difficult solutions? They have no interest in it at all.

This is a fascinating poll. At first glance, it seems to call into question the wisdom of Repubs going to bat for BP... but look at the numbers. 71% think Obama has not been tough enough, 20% think he has it just right, and 3% think he has been too tough. Now, you might say the 3% is the base of the Republican Party these folks are appealing to, but I'm betting the base is included in the 71% because they'd do anything to make Obama look bad. So, if I'm right, some percentage of 71% (probably about half) responded in a way they thought would be most damaging to Obama, yet they would also support the exact opposite position if voiced by a Republican. I don't see any other explanation. They sure aren't included in the 20% that think Obama's doing things "about right."

It's a rather dumb poll to being with, since the president's ability to "be tough" is somewhat constrained in this instance.

How many people here think Bush was "tough enough" on Osama Bin Laden?

Exactly, the tea-baggin repubs out there just choose the most negative answer for any question having to do with our President.

    Well, this takes some balls...

You don't often see a Repub taking on leadership stupidity in such a way. Good for Miller.

Yep... they want him to be perceived as weak but cry like a stuck pig when he tries to hold BP accountable.

Barton is one of the "poster children" of idiocy from the Texas GOP House delegation. Yes, folks, a majority of those who bothered to vote in his district actually reelected the idiot. Not once, but since 1984. Orwell just rolled over in his grave. The collective stupidity of his district, who gave him about 63% of the vote last time, is breathtaking.

Wow. This guy has some brass balls to say that stuff on the record. I wonder how much lobbyist money it took for him to commit political suicide.

He's been carrying their water for a very long time. Wait until he retires and you'll see why he did it, besides being a dumb chump.

As long as the oil doesn't wash up on Texas beaches Barton will be re-elected anyway.
