This makes for a glorious day.

Something must be very close to becoming public. It's only a few days after his former high level staffer pled guilty and agreed to give information. We'll know the truth soon.

I'm not surprised that the conservatives aren't glad this scumbag is out of their hair. They must like having corrupt lying officials in their party.

I hope this "resignation" isn't a compromise to bury the levels of corruption and shield the Leadership.

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. He's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
    Let them know
    The Wicked Witch is dead!

I'm happy for the people of Sugarland.

Very telling that DeLay is planning to move to Virginia.

Perhaps he is preparing for his new role as Ken Lay's country club prison butt-buddy.

While many may be happy that DeLay is gone it may not be time to celebrate. Leaving aside the question of whether DeLay is actually involved in illegality or not DeLay knows that the primary issue of the election would be him and that Sugarland is naturally a Republican district so the only thing that would cost the Republicans that seat is him. I think he's learning the lesson from what happened to the Democrats in 1994 when people like Tom Foley tried to hold onto their seats costing the Democrats the majority. DeLay understands that without him the Republicans have a better shot holding onto the House without him and while he might not be in office a Republican majority still benefits him much much more than a Democratic one.

Something REALLY bad is going to surface.....

or maybe not...maybe he resigned as part of a deal to keep something REALLY bad from surfacing.

Anyway...good to be rid of the douchebag.

    We'll see

But I think Delay is being a bit delusional if he thinks this was just going to be a referendum on him. The culture of corruption (of which he is very much one at the center) will be a nation wide issue that will affect all republican candidates. IMO

And I think Lampson will run a formidable campaign against any republican in Surgerland.

The GOP has been trying to get DeLay not to run since before the primary. He just caved to pressure.

My only question is can Texas Rangers travel to Virginia to pick him up?

Does texas support extraordinary extridition? Maybe we could send DeLay to Syria to get him softened up for his Texas State Pen life when he gets returned.

I think Lampson can take the district. If I remember right, I think the redistricting diluted the Republican voters somewhat, which doesn't hurt. Lampson has money, name recognition, and he's not a Republican. But you're right. If a very high-profile candidate ends up running, someone like Bob Eckels (hope I spelled that right), it could be close. It's weird to think that DeLay leaving could have any negative consequences.

Heck, I don't care... the country is better off with him leaving the scene, and the national impact this will have is going to help Democrats all over the country. This seat will be one of the most hotly contested ones, but was seen as tough to capture before DeLay succumbed to the scandal.

    Keep D&D Civil.

Well here seems to be the reason for the move to Virginia.
