If someone posts something that causes you so much cognitive dissonance that you are trying to resolve it with repeated posts as the thread moves along, there is a pretty good chance that they hit a nerve.

    Why so passive-aggressive?

I don't have anything against gay people.. so you don't have to get your panties in a wad. And, since were keeping score. I coordinate the GL Leadership Institute in San Francisco. Score.

I just have an issue when people say that there is no problem with gays joining the military...

fact is, gay men are sexually attracted to other men... and by showering together in a communal shower during bootcamp, it makes straight men uncomfortable. Straight men are sexually attracted to women.. and we can't expect women to accept having to shower with men and being told that they have to "get over it".

I've said it a million times before in other threads. No agression, just my repeated experience. In my experience everybody in San Francisco is militant about something and has no understanding of how to be polite. Perhaps if the only gay people I knew were in San Francisco, I would agree with your position about gay people being "in your face". But my point is that in my experience it is a function of San Francisco, not of homosexuality.

And black men made white southerners uncomfortable, as has been stated. The discomfort of straight men - so long as the gay men aren't placing the penises in the straight men's orifices - is the straight man's problem. They can get therapy or something if it really bothers them.

Women in the field manage to sleep next to men without dying from existential angst. Straight men can get over the fact that gay men are showering next to them. At least, if the gay men are in the open, they will know who to be careful around. Currently, the gay men are still there, but they are like little land mines of gayness that you stumble upon accidentally.

And if the straight soldiers can't learn to handle it, they should probably be discharged from the military before they start reading the Turner Diaries and go Timothy McVeigh on some federal building somewhere.

my feelings are hurt because you couldn't find a way to sneak in a racial reference into your last post.

Why so offended? Own your bigotry. You're part of a rapidly shrinking class. Be proud.

He almost just self-imploded on The Situation Room, Falcon-style. Wolf Blitzer initially mentions how other countries let gays serve, and names Israel as one. Hunter must have recognized a talking point he prepared because he took the opportunity to repeat how Israel's military service is mandatory, perhaps 3 or 4 different times in a row. Then he says that Gates and Mullen are biased, because they are appointees of Obama and says that Mullen specifically doesn't want to be the next Peter Pace.

    @Steve_Francis_rules
"You think gays serving openly in the military is a problem because it goes against some people's core beliefs. Well, it goes against my core beliefs (and those of many other people, including many Christians) to force people to hide/lie about who they really are when they want to serve their country. Why don't you respect our position? Why do you think it's ok for us to be "uncomfortable" but not for anti-gay religious fundamentalists?"

what makes something right or wrong in america? is it majority rules? how many people in the military do you think are rightists? or christian or both? do you think its a high percentage? does that matter?

that said, i dont see it being hide/lie... i see it more as dont ask dont tell

is it hide/lie if someone doesnt know something about u? like a superstition maybe or a secret of some sort or even... that you like the rockets?

again, you are making this out to be something its not

and i absolutely respect your position, which is one thats on one side of the spectrum and i respect the position to the other side, which is why i think compromise is absolutely the best option

"Why do you think it's ok for us to be "uncomfortable" but not for anti-gay religious fundamentalists?"

really? must people know someone is gay at work?

you cant make everyone happy, ever, we know this much and i hope we can agree on that at least

so why not compromise with the bigger issues

    and about this...

    "
