+1 for the Tex Ren Fest from me. If you're interested I definitely suggest you should check it out. I went for the first time this year and I had a blast. I wish I knew to get there early, I drove through Tomball/Magnolia and once I got close, it took 1 hour to get past the final 10 miles. It is expensive, but you can save, and if you're ARE INTERESTED, can't see why you wouldn't have a good time. The food is pretty decent, shows are pretty good (SOUND & FURY) and it's fun to just take it all in or be a part of it. If you just want to drink beer and look at females, you can do it elsewhere for much cheaper.
One more thing, if you aren't at least passably versed in Shakespeare, you wont enjoy Sound and Fury. and also....while there are normally all sorts of fetching young ladies in small amounts of dress, it's not a given...the amount of chain mail clad boobs are directly proportionate to the temperature. Warm weekends, much more flesh to see....Cold...not so much. Turkey legs...ugh....so much better food to eat there...I highly recommend the scotch eggs and kolaches first thing in the morning.
I can see both sides of it. If you go in expecting it to be a Universal Theme Park somehow mixed with the alcoholic fun of tubing in costume, you'll obviously be let down. I enjoyed it when I was in high school, and my wife and I have gotten back in it since it's fun to let our little son ride an elephant and camel. I wouldn't mind a good dedicated group trip (maybe next year) without the worry of being a daddy. RenFest is something that demands you go all in on if you want to have a great time and make the trek and cash worth it. For everyone whining and crying about the food and drink prices, get some sense and tailgate. Come back out to the lots and tailgate some more for lunch. Problem solved. As for traffic, if you aren't pulling into the lots within the same half hour of them opening up, you're asking for it. Every year we marvel at the miles long back up when we leave (again, kiddo).
Great fun..... I go every year. Here is my wisdom..... #1 it is going to be EXPENSIVE, expect on dropping several hundred dollars. #2 There are lots of awesome breasts and easy women.... imagine attractive carnies that will put out at the drop of a hat. #3 Take a large friend, it is a great place to make fun of the dorks and partake in fist-a-cuffs. You would be surprised with how much you can get away with before security gets involved. #4 On the way to the Faire I suggest you buy a 12 pack and slam it in the parking lot. The beer is expensive at the festival and it is so much more fun drunk. Typically we get wasted in the parking lot and then supplement at the festival through out the day. You figure if you are there for 6 hours, you will need 12 beers from the vendors and they NEVER cut you off. #5 Buy one of the wooden swords they have and hit strangers with it when they walk by. Never been arrested at the festival, but many great memories...... have fun, and always, be responsible.
^ LOL! That completely nullifies taking the family to this place. I want to see some jousting and people put in stocks as punishment. That's not too weird, is it?
The jousting no. The people put in stocks as punishment? That is a bit weird Swoly. Not too weird though.
I think this is a great idea. Would be a good opportunity for first timers to try out the place as well.
I went for the first time last weekend and had a blast. I messed up thinking they would be looking at our stuff, but next year, we're just gonna sneak in a 12-pack in my kid's stroller.
Best thing I ever saw at the Renaissance Festival was 2-3 years ago when two dudes where walking around in full-blown storm trooper costumes from Star Wars. They even had storm trooper blasters.
