I ALWAYS hated Jones as a person and as a player, but that's not fair. He did improve his three point shooting... ...and got worse at EVERYTHING else
he is a career 31.4% shooter from 3 and is shooting 31.6% this year last year he had a career year with 35.1% so he is pretty much where is always has been with 3pt% and regressed from last season. the scary thing? he is shooting more 3s per game this season than any other season both per 36 and in actual minutes.
Stats tell everything u need to know about TJ, yet coach is not using the data. Should've kept Adelman?
scoring, rebounding, defense, etc. cant think of anything positive that tjones brings to the table at this point. harrell the rookie is better than him.
I don't have a lot of faith in Harrell... at all... now or in the future. but absolutely, bench TJones and play Harrell.
And last year it was all about a super small sample. If you include his 3 point attempts during the playoffs his total 3 point % last year was like 28%. He does just about nothing well on a basketball court.....it's so ridiculous how many arguments were had with people trying to defend this kid.
He has been bad this year for sure but it is not like he has played much in the last 10-15 games. People are making him and Brewer scapegoats for team failure altogether. That is not right. The line has to be drawn somewhere. Brewer and Jones are not responsible for team's failure on Defense, TOs and the decline of Clint Capela. Their minutes should be reduced to 10 minutes but who else on the bench? Guys keep on getting waived. I do not have a problem with Dleaguers. That said there is no way the bench can be more inconsistent. Might as well try something out.
I dont what happened between the beginning of last year and after the nerve damage, but he has no explosion anymore. He used to be one of the better finishers around the rim,but now, he has no lift.
Been saying this for 2 years. Get him outta here already. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=254150
First off his bad play is a major reason why he hasnt played much the last few games despite having depth issues up front. And I agree its foolish to blame all of the teams problems on just one or two guys - personally I have not done that if anything I feel guys like Harden and Howard should shoulder the majority of the blame being the stars. That being said guys like Jones and Brewer do contribute to the decline of the defense. Brewer aside whose defense IMO hasn't really changed much the guy is a gambler on D and always has been not much has changed this season. Jones just doesn't try on defense, you rarely see him hustling back and making proper rotations and constantly gets lost. Earlier in the season when he was getting more minutes there was a stretch of 2 to 3 games that as soon as he came into the game the other team just went to pick and roll with him involved knowing it would get them an amazing look. They way he plays offense it appears he is trying to play for his next contract. Right now he is 4th on the team in FGA per 36 behind Harden (obviously) Thorton (gone and everyone knew he was a volume shooter) and Josh Smith (a known chucker) - so in the limited minutes he does play he shoots more than any of our other starters do which makes no sense to me especially since he isn't taking quality shots most of the time. At this point we have Harrell and Capela and Dekker on the bench - you're right those aren't the best options to choose from. All things considered though I would rather roll with the two rookies and the 2nd year guy and get them minutes to develop and hopefully they'll become better and more consistent than Jones. I mean at this point the guy is in his 4th season and there is very little to believe that he'll make that "leap" forward and become a consistent 12-14ppg on efficient shooting and 5-7 boards per game with adequate defense. I mean the Rockets at this point are playing to get swept out of the first round and lose their first pick or not make the playoffs and keep their pick. I would rather not make the playoffs, keep the pick and provide quality minutes to our rookies to see if they can be rotational contributors next season.
Two words "soft & fundamental " Is there a stats that can show how many times a player gets blocked? I bet u jones is Number 1 on that list.
