Come to think of it, I think our Y2K preparedness kit is still around the house somewhere and we have plenty of canned cream corn leftover from the Millenium bunker we built. We should be fine.

    :)

I would think that you would use it along with the plastic sheets to seal of windows/doors/vents/etc in the event of some attack with a chemical/biological weapon...

Or you could watch "Booty Call" and use the plastic sheets for... ;)

Uhhh...the Afghani campaign did nothing to diminish the possibility of terrorist attacks?

Umm...Mr Grinch...the only other time they "drug out" an orange alert was on Sept 10 2002...the day before the year anniversary of 9-11. It had very little to do with elections.

i don't want to sound like a freak here...but if it were just me and my wife, i wouldn't do a thing.

but since i have a three year old son...it's different. i would never forgive myself if i laughed at this and something really happened where we were in need to take care of him. i can't stomach that possibility...so silly or not, i'll probably take some care to make sure we do have some things around.

No dude, i 'm totally LMAO right now. Duct tape fashion, microphone cables, etc.
I REFUSE to live in fear because of these A$$HOLE Al-KAIDA AL-QUIDA whateveryouwannacallem jackasses. I'm more worried about making my credit card payment and still having enough cassius clay to go see an occasional Rox game in person.

JuanValdez, thanks for using my "sig.". An old friend of mine used to be fond of that. It's a quote. Do any of you know where it's from? One hint... it's from a Pulitzer Prize winning novel. Published in the Fifties, if I remember correctly. (hey, that's two hints!)

After 9/11, I'm not scoffing at any threat. Especially since I use a "soft target" like the subway for commuting. My fiancee and I have already discussed our plans about what to do in the case of an attack. Rest assured, if something goes down here, we'll be ready to flee the city any which way we can (luckily, the PATH train to Jersey is a block away). Most of you did not go through 9/11, so I can understand not taking this threat seriously. Unfortunately, living in the biggest city in the country (with the highest profile), I have no choice but to prepare for the worst.

(You can understand why I wish to move... and soon.)

There are some advantages of living in a town of only 7,000 people.

You know, Texas cities would be bad choices for something like a dirty bomb. Population concentration is terrible. They'd be getting terrible bang for their buck.

What the hell is wrong with you fangled people?...I'm here trying to remind yall of the importance of being prepared for which we should when considering the alert status...

There is nothing wrong with humor...even in dark, low times, humor is often called for, but I cringe when posters think this is water under the bridge or when glynch shows his glynch self because I don't believe this is about choosing when to have alerts or political timing...I really and truly believe there are substantiated intelligence reports from the FBI, and CIA...Call me a sucker or whatever left-winged motivated for believing in my country...USA is #1, and I'm not sorry for saying so!

btw, when I say USA is #1, I hope the left doesn't take it as a jab because it's not...

I dunno I guess it is different when you have kids...btw, my oldest turned 4 today! Everyone say Happy Birthday to Alyson!...

I have two daughters, and like MadMax stated how can I not take some kind of actions just in case?...even if the likelihood is .00861% chance. My little ones are worth it...If I was single and died, who cares. But it's different when you have people so dear to you...

A-train is a funny guy, but I had a Y2K stash like Jeff...complete with lots of water, and 20, 000 rounds of .22lr ammunition......kidding (maybe, maybe no)

Look people, I don't think it's unreasonable to slap yourself across the face, wake up and take some kind of action...How trite is it to gather a few canned goods, some water, plastic sheeting, flashlights, etc. together in response to the unthinkable?

Yall might think that I'm an uncaring, war-monger eager to put someone away with one of my "many" guns, but the truth is I probably care about others too much...I am serious in encouraging others to take some action to prepare themselves for the unthinkable...

Now let's think about that "unthinkable", how often has that happened in the past?...Not many times, but it has...It happened regarding Mt. St. Helens, Hitler, ...and 9/11.
The unfortunate thing is that in each of the above examples, people said "it ain't gonna happen"...or along the lines of "it won't affect me"...History has shown otherwise.

The only question for you to answer is what will you do?...Something or Nothing?...and if you do nothing, can you live with the consequences to yourself...to your loved ones?

ROX: With all due respect, what would ANY of your supplies have done for you had you been:

    a. near Mt. Saint Helens when it erupted
    b. a Jew in Nazi Germany
    c. sitting on the 80th floor of the World Trade Center on 9/11

    ???

I admire your dedication to being prepared, but the worry over an event that is less likely to effect you than being clunked on the head by a meteor seems a tad out of place. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with being prepared but, the truth is, none of your preparedness could have saved you from the situations you mentioned.
