this is what i was talking about. we agree on this point. yao can't roll when the guard goes into the paint. he can follow for the put back which he's been doing, but usually the guard can't get to the rim and kicks it back to yao, then the play has to be re-set. again, in my original post i never said all the time... i said every now and then it would be good to have the guard pull up for the jumper, then sometimes yao could roll. giving different looks to the offense is one way to keep the defense on its heels. you can't have anything happen all the time. i don't want yao to roll all the time, but right now he's never rolling.
With AB's quickness, it's easy for him to blow by Yao's defender. Wafer is also quick enough to do this and Lowry always likes to get into the paint and draw the contact. Wafer can pull off the mid range jumper while yao rolls, but I would rather have AB doing it. Tony Parker has made quite a successful career out of picking and rolling with Duncan and since there has been so much comparison between AB and Parker, why not do what he does?
last night there were 10+ times the guards pulled up for a jumper after yao's screen. they made most of them because the kings bigs were expecting the drive and didn't close out on the shooter. when teams start closing out on the shooter, our guys can either drive past them or feed yao on the roll. lets see what the next few games looks like
