I think our GM would be off the deep end if all he could get for Battier was Priz. We gave up a lotto pick for the guy!!!!
LOL I'm not trying to knock the man, I'm trying to temper the reactions in here. He didn't make a post saying "I've got it on good sources that the Rockets are getting Joel Pryzbilla." He posted a picture and then in a subsequent post said to keep an eye on another situation. Maybe he's heard something concrete, or maybe he's heard something that's been floated, etc. I'm just trying to prevent the outrage if nothing happens.
Completely disagree. Morey wouldn't send Shane straight up for Pryzbilla - that accomplishes nothing in the big picture and wastes one of our best assets. There would have to be a young piece coming back in the deal. They won't trade Shane just to plug a hole at center.
Dream scenario and probably a pipedream, but . . . what if Battier is not involved, and this deal is just for smaller junk contracts? Joel Przybilla ($6.8M, $7.4M in 2010-11) for Brian Cook ($3.5M expiring), Brent Barry ($2.1M expiring) and cash Between the smaller combined salaries (Cook and Barry make just barely enough to fit within the 125% + $100k rule) and the avoidance of an additional roster charge to the Blazers' cap room, this deal would open up another $1,752,513 in cap room for Portland. The cash from Houston could be used to offset Cook's stupid salary. Plus, the Blazers (typically one of the top tax payers every year) will not have to worry about Joel's $7.4M salary in 2010-11, when the extensions for Roy and Aldridge will most assuredly take the Blazers back DEEP into luxury tax territory. If Morey could pull off a deal like this, I would have to further refurbish my existing shrine to him. But, this is probably just a pipedream.
Why are we in dire need? We aren't going to compete for a title next year, so why do we care if we lose with Scola and scrubs manning the five or Pryzbilla manning the five? I don't think Morey is desperate to add a center.
Utah is in bad shape financially. True, in another year, Boozer and Okur will be unrestricted, but right now they're already at or over the luxury tax, and cannot afford to keep both Boozer and Millsap, period (IF Millsap gets a contract commensurate with the market and his skills). Now, we could facilitate a 3 team trade, one that sends a contract to Utah that gives them a body to semi-replace Millsap or Boozer, while the Jazz send one of those power forwards (all indications are that it'll be Millsap, of course) to Portland. We all know Portland can absorb the contract, even if it front-loaded in a sign-and-trade. Or it could just be where Portland simply signs Millsap outright and we step in with Battier....although it'd be nice to get hold of Fernandez, that would NOT suck (but not at the expense of Aaron Brooks, who would be perfect for hometown Portland).
If Matt has heard something and posted a small bit about it, he needs to spill the beans..... Because otherwise this thread should be locked...... DD
If you don't think Przybilla is a commodity to a team who has a brand new, starting caliber SF (Ariza) to replace Battier, and NO CENTER AT ALL for next season, then...I don't know what to tell you. Portland may throw in something...but no way in hell it's Fernandez. $20 to the tip jar if it is.
No we're not. This team isn't going anywhere next season. Pryzbilla isn't going to make us a contender. Battier for Pryz straight up is a lateral move. Unless we're going to immediately trade Pryzbilla for someone else immediately afterwards, it's useless.
I was thinking Portland would include the draft rights to their Euro-stashes to free up more cap room to sign Millsap. Freeland could be worth taking a flyer on to groom this year.
Przybilla was a colossal bust. We took him with the 9th overall pick in the 2000 draft. Morey, please don't do it.
If this is Shane for Pryzbilla, I approve. Let Shane play for a (semi)contender, I'm all about doing right by him. Get us a legit bandaid at center without compromising our long term plans.
