A little bit of hyperbole on my part for rhetorical effect, but I still would never consider dealing that pick for solely Pryzbilla. We need to be accumulating young assets, not trading them away for stop gap contingencies.
He's just one of those hard-working players that you hate when he's on the opposing team, but love when he's on yours. I wouldn't be opposed to getting him, but like the majority here have already said, we need more for Shane.
I would think a modest lotto protection (maybe something like top 10 excluded) would be sufficient. I.e. if we really tank, the pick would be kept. I am thinking one scenario might be that if Utah matches the Millsap offer, the teams trade Landry for Przybilla (with additional fillers or other more significant parts involved). Landry is a cheaper, but pretty effective substitute for what they are trying to achieve with Millsap.
I don't think there is anyway at this point to predict how the Rockets will do next year. They could be anywhere between the 6th seed in the West, to one of the worst teams in the West. It's hard to imagine them really being that bad though with Adelman at the helm and guys like Scola and Battier fighting hard every night.
Absolutely agree. Give up a lottery pick for someone we hope is a backup after next season and we are only acquiring to get us through the year?
When healthy, yes Yao is valuable. But he's not healthy. Who is going to trade for Yao when he is likely out for the season and possibly longer? You give me one plausible example. I'll wait.
It would likely be a mid-first round pick. Exchanging that pick for Pryzbilla, not considering anything else, seems like a fair deal to me. But factoring in the additional salary we'd be taking on, I wouldn't go for it either. Another possibility is Landry+Cook/Barry for Pryzbilla. We'd still be adding some salary, but only about 3-4 million, instead of 6-7 million.
Why does everyone want Batum? We just signed a young 3 who's better to a long-term deal. Fernandez plays 2, so I can see that, but don't see the need for Batum. The expectation is that Ariza will see about 35 minutes per game, which doesn't leave much for someone else. I don't think we should get our hopes up, though. If we are really trying to win next year, then Battier for Pryzbilla straight-up might be all we get. We're desperate for a 5 at this point.
Why would fans of Fernando Nieve care about the Rockets' record? Anyway, for as little "talent" as the Rockets currently have, a team with Shane Battier, Trevor Ariza, Luis Scola, Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry, Kyle Lowry, Chuck Hayes and coached by Rick Adelman will be a LOT better than they look on paper. As Morey has said on numerous occasions, according to their analysis, defensive players are vastly underrated by most NBA teams. A guy like Chuck Hayes, for as "untalented" as he may appear, is a winning player. Same for Battier. Same for Scola. Same for Ariza. Same for Lowry. Still, this is all probably a moot point, since we know that Morey will make at least 1-2 more moves to improve this team, in which case, I STILL think they will be no worse than a late lottery team.
Guys, Battier is gone. I keep reading posts from people who don't want to let him go but the minute Ariza signed here it meant Battier was on his way out. The last thing this team needed was two defensive minded SF who only shoot spot up three pointers as their offense. Considering we went after Ariza and gave him serious money it means Battier is going to be used in a trade to get something we do need....like a Center. I like this deal.
Great post! The only problem I found with it is that it was factually incorrect. Beyond the fact that it isn't true though, it's dead accurate!
I hope everyone who is cracking on Joel for being a "flopping douche" is begging the team to trade Scola.
I'm not the biggest Battier fan,but trading him for Joel is not enough for me. It works on the ESPN trade machine. If we can get Batum along with him,it will be acceptable to me.Batum is far away from being a Battier defensively, but he is young, has genuine potential and has athleticism. Joel P plus Batum for Battier works on the trade machine too. Give them Budinger if they insist.
What would you be hoping to accomplish with either of those deals? Sure, they definitely improve us next year in the sense of us not currently having a center. But the short term improvement isn't considerable enough to justify mortgaging young assets (the pick, Landry) that could contribute in the long haul. If the intent is to just acquire a center for next season, I would much rather just offer Chris Mihm $2 million and call it a day.
