It will take the Pistons probably 2 first round picks to move Josh Smith. For last season, its very impressive for Mr. Smith to have these stats : 1. almost career low in FG % : 41.9% 2. career high in FG ATTEMPTS. 3. Shot worse than D-Mo in 3 PT FG : around 26% 4. career high in 3PT FG attempts. 5. close to career low in FT attempts, rebound and assist. Yeah, Howard can not wait to team up with him.
Just came in here to post the Anthony Randolph idea but it's already been said. I'll just reiterate what RV6 said. Young, length, athleticism and good defensive insticts. Could be had very cheep I would imagine so worth a shot.
If Detroit adds a pick AND Dinwiddie, let's go get Josh Smith. That would give Morey his assets PLUS improve the D, instead of 3 of 5 plus defenders, it would be 4 of 5 plus defenders. Not bad. But would that mean losing the TPE?
I always thought that Randolph would be a star. Guess he never put it all together. He is always good on video games.
Been going through the list of all available FAs. These are the top ten I think can help this roster: Okafor, Emeka C Gray, Aaron C Smith, Jason C Miller, Mike SF Davis, Ed PF Brooks, Aaron PG Haslem, Udonis PF Collins, Jason C Humphries, Kris PF Barbosa, Leandro SG Stuckey, Rodney PG Basically I think we need a big body that can play some D. We could also do with a veteran who can handle the ball. And Mike Miller, because shooting always helps.
I know it's been mentioned plenty, but to weigh in my vote: Lance Stephenson Lead the league in triple doubles 23 years old Energetic, versatile, athletic & passionate provides an intimidation factor - what this team needs. We can rotate Beverly, Harden, Tdaniels, Ariza, Stephenson providing no weaknesses in the back court and SF position. We can play scrappy defense and constant fast breaks with a small line up of: Howard, Ariza, Stephenson, Harden, Beverly. Adding Stephenson & Ariza to a rotation with Howard and Beverly will be huge improvements over our defense from last year. We could potentially be top 10 in offense and defense. Stephenson adds extra play making ability. Harden and Stephenson in close games in the bottom of the 4th quarter will be huge. Stephenson is still young. I think he will outgrow most of his silly antics. He has plenty of room to grow. Stephenson could become a huge trade asset, which Morey likes. In my opinion, by adding Stephenson we are one of the most athletic and well well rounded teams in the NBA. It is impossible to create a team that is 100% better than the thunder and spurs, so all we can do is grab a top 3 spot and then survive the Western Conference Playoffs. This should be our goal.
on second thought, i'm not sure we should get any of these second rate free agents. what for? to build a bench and lose in the first round again? we need to restock our assets in order to make a good offer for rondo or love. right now its slim pickins. i say let our young guys show what they can do (if anything). canaan, johnson, daniels, dmo, capela. those 5 guys should be the bench, let them either prove themselves or inflate their stats. meanwhile you can use the cap space to acquire come unwanted expiring contract (or two) and a pick (or two). that way we would have a few productive players on really desirable contracts, lots of picks, and a sizable expiring contract for salary matching. its the best package we can offer for a 3rd star.
What undesirable expiring contracts exist that can be folded into capspace that would net an additional pick? If they haven't been traded yet, the teams with them are likely just going to keep them to use in trades themselves or just let them expire.
We need a decent C to backup Dwight (jason smith) We need a vet PG to tutor Beverley et al (jameer nelson) We need to spend the MLE on someone to get more tradeable salary (miller?)
Jason Smith seems like a logical fit. He's not really a 5, but I think the Rockets can get away with it if they have another "right sized" PF playing next to him.
Jameer would be a great Lin replacement. Him + Mike Miller + Jason Smith (if all can be signed with cap/exceptions) would ease my worries, but I doubt we get any.
