Having grown up in Oregon and lived there for 18 years, I have seen the good and bad of the Blazers, and agree that this is a low point for that franchise. And you're right that the Blazers have lost a lot of fan support, but that is thanks to a Mr. Bob Whitsitt much more than Portlanders being bandwagoners. If Whitsitt hadn't alienated the entire city, the support would still be there. The Blazers were very mediocre through the mid-90's, especially after trading Clyde to the Rockets, and still sold out the Rose Garden night in and night out. To give you an idea about Whitsitt, there was a big controversy a few years ago when a fan showed up with a sign that said "Trade Whitsitt." Believe me, there is nowhere to go but up for the franchise right now. About the Kobe cheers, there are a lot of Californians in Oregon (as you may have noticed by now). I saw quite a few Blazers/Lakers games back in the day and there were always some ugly yellow jerseys in the crowd. I think the Blazers will stay put, partly because the city will do what it takes to keep them there (unlike what seems to be happening in Seattle), and also because Stern said not too long ago that he wants to see them stay in Portland. But Portland, nice town that it is, has a serious case of "little man's syndrome" when it comes to Seattle, and I guarantee you that the city leaders will not want to let Seattle become the only major league sports city in the Northwest.
I ran across this article that says Clyde Drexlers is interested in being part of the group to buy the Blazers. LINK
