DD the bible doesn't say anything about joining Jesus in heaven. The bible promise everlasting life with Jesus here on earth.
Thats great. I've been going to church myself although I have missed the last few weeks becasue I have had no way to get there. But once I get my ride back I will be going. Church is a BEAUTIFUL place.
I guess it's common for a poster to post these types of threads every week or so, hehe. But people's opinions are always being change or built upon so I thought, why not just ask in a different way? Thanks for all the answers from everyone. I wasn't trying to say that religion is wrong/fake. To me, religion has done more good than bad. I am just seeking the everyday joe six-pack's (sorry, couldn't resist) answers and as several others have reiterated: how can you be so sure of something you are so unsure of? Or is it something every person, religious or not, has in the back of their minds? It's just difficult to believe these stories from every religion. If some of these stories (such as those told in the bible) were headlines in today's paper, people would ridicule the writer for nonsense. Since there is no one dominant religion in the world, one of them has to be wrong, right? Or is this statement unfair to say? Discuss (last one, haha).
I don't know how to respond to that without sounding blunt, but you are way off. maybe try reading the bible again.
I think anyone who has ever believed in Christ and follows the teachings of him, would agree that it's difficult to deny his exsitence.
Anyone watch "Religulous"? I liked it, but I consider myself agnostic. Saw it on Friday, so it was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this thread.
This isn't true. The concept of God IF it was steady we wouldn't have wars and different branches. Everyone has their own concept of what "God" is. How is that remaining steady? It's usually just people arguing and trying to convert people to stuff they are unsure of. And in the case of Catholics I think (not 100% on this, and sorry if I am wrong, but I know its one branch of Christians) the King made a new religion because he wanted to be able to divorce his wife.
Man you say this, but people die for all kinds of reason. Not saying it's true or not because I have no idea, but I am sure some people would be willing to die to prove their views on UFOs being real or something was legit. In fact I know people who I think are so hardheaded they would be willing to die to prove their point.
I love religion. Love the history, love the various moralities. I just have never felt connected to any of it other than academic. I simply don't care. I am very similar with politics, actually. I keep an academic distance there as well. I was raised Episcopalian but a lot of my friends were Presbyterian, Baptists, and Pentecostals. I went to their churches voluntarily, went to Young Life, Vacation Bible School, etc. I was never searching or anything, I just enjoyed it. People always attempted to convert me but I tried to keep myself out of the experience because I didn't want to be confrontational. I guess in the end they thought I was OK because I always did well in the Bible trivia-type games they likes to play. I would get a lot of surprised looks at first. I also worked at the JCC and have been involved with synagogues before. In life I prefer to talk to religious people about religion than atheists or agnostics. That is the same with politics. I am much more interested in different beliefs. It is hard to do because most people are way more attached than I am but it is stimulating when successful. In my early 20's I did have a period of wanting to be right in religious arguments but fortunately I grew out of that. So, yeah, you weren't asking about non-believer stories but I thought I would share something different than "religion is stupid". I don't hate religion, it has just never been a part of my life on a personal level. I am simply unable to believe any of it.
We have different beliefs, and that is what America is about. I am very glad that you expressed that without degrading anybody else. There is simply not enough of that here. If somebody does not believe, or believes differently than I do, I have no problem with that as long as you don't tell me my beliefs are stupid or tell me that having faith is the same as smoking weed.
I'm confused... What/who says weed is not something you can do and also accept Christianity as your fait hand Jesus as your savior?
I knew someone would ask. It's not so much comparing them as I am comparing the reality of their existence being just based on belief nothing else. One can't say with complete uncertainty that Jesus did exist because there is no hard evidence. Sorry "belief" or "because bible said so" don't count as reasons that he no doubt existed. But that was just an example I am sure I could've thought of something better than UFOs, but I didnt feel like thinking too much about it haha.
There are many ancient texts, which talk about the existence of Jesus, that even non Christian scientists accept. It's not just the Bible that mentions Christ.
