...by being SO FREAKING LOUD! http://blog.chron.com/sciguy/2012/0...d-federal-workplace-safety-rules-on-saturday/ As a field level patron of the game, I can definitely attest to this and am going to go ahead and take credit for it. I definitely did not have a voice after the game. Good job everyone! Our fans were AWESOME and the atmosphere was INCREDIBLE. GO TEXANS! (and Broncos so we can have this again this season ) I took a few videos at the game and will post it later sometime.
That's awesome. I bet they make them open it next time, if the weather is right. It's probably been brought up somewhere around here, but when the old Astros were in the World Series way back in 2005, before their exit from the league, they wanted to but were not allowed to close the roof during the games. I remember thinking that was lame. What's worse is, I don't think it was out of any concern of liability or danger to the fans hearing or anything, at least I don't remember that being cited as why. Basically they didn't want us to be able to do as we pleased to increase the noise pressure on the Sox, and insisted we follow our normal procedure for "weather" or not the roof should be closed. Maybe that's just how I remember it as someone who was pissed about it at the time.
There actually was a moment that I looked at the T.V. and saw Andy Dalton with his hands covering his ears, then I looked at my wife and she was doing the same thing because I had the TV volume jacked so loud...Nice! I imagine being there would be like a day at the shooting range where your ears are still ringing on the drive home.
It was damn loud in the stadium. Like DonkeyMagic, my ears were ringing afterwards. When Cincy had the ball, I had to shout to converse with others around me. Awesome atmosphere. I was at the Super Bowl game at Reliant back in 2004, and the crowd on Saturday was probably twice as loud as the Super Bowl one. Side note: We got to the game around 3 PM, and we were dumbfounded that everyone was already at the game. Traffic near the stadium was the lightest I've ever seen.
After Watt scored his touchdown, me and my brother were running around the aisles screaming and hugging everyone around us. Then we started screaming at each other, and it literally looked like his mouth was moving, and no sound was coming out. Later, he told me that he was screaming at the top of his lungs. That was the loudest atmosphere I have ever been a part of....and that's including Jeff Kent's walk-off homerun in Game 6 of the NLCS, New Year's Eve in Times Square, and Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals. 73,000 screaming fans are definitely a force to be reckoned with.
I remember the issue being the inability to get aerial views of the field with the roof closed, or something stupid like that.
I sat right in front of that guy with the decibel reader. I remember turning around and seeing him with earplugs and the reader out. I smiled then went back to screaming. That JJ Watt play was redonk. Everyone was acting the fool in the stands as he was running. Surreal moment.
I'm getting chills just from reading y'all's posts. Reminds me of Burke's HR and Ricky's long touchdown run against the Aggies in 98 to break the NCAA all-time rushing record.
I still don't have a voice. Tore the crap out if my throat from yelling. I was at a new bar called Chulas. basically a Latino Hooters. lots of TVs and 100 ounce beer towers. started out at Texans grille but we couldn't get enough seats.
The loudest sporting event I've ever been a part of was the UT-A&M game a few years back. Can't imagine how crazy it must've been at the Texans game. The decibel level in my apartment was pretty loud though
I could just imagine the initial outburst from the Watt pick 6...place must off went off like a firecracker!!!!
