thanks for this thread. i always felt the same way. hopefully brah, this is our year. i have faith. there's a lot of negative opinions on this board and I respect them as well. But, lets keep this thread clean of anything else then pure nuthuggery muhahahhahahahahahahaha
true....i don't know. He says he's 100 percent so that's what he is right now. to assume hes going to get injured again this season is something i try to stay away from. One day at a time.
built for the playoffs? yes. but i'm pretty sure the regular season is a pretty good indication of how were going to do in the post season. and who says were going to make it into the playoffs anyways?? from the looks of it, it looks like its going to be a tight competition and race to the finish at the current rate. i would hate to be cocky and just expect that were going to make it to the playoffs without winning most of our regular season games. on top of that, who the hell is going to be happy when we lose. we're obviously going to want to vent about it and share our opinions on what needs to be improved..yah?
1. the 4th quarter collapse. 2. can not close out games. 3. bad efficiency from every starters. 4. no superstars. 5. worst starting PG. 6. hated by the Refs. 7. only one starter can jump but he is TMAC. 8. only one player can create but he is TMAC. 9. home court disadvantage. all of these are indicating that Rockets are not built for the big games.
To the contrary, this team is built for the regular season, and there is much more evidence to support that view than the "relax, we are built for the playoffs" perspective. Playoffs! Are we talking playoffs!? Playoffs! I mean Playoffs?!
Look at it this way: Thinking the Rockets are built for the playoffs is like eating comfort food when times are tough. We all do it. It makes you feel a little better for a spell but it isn't necessarily connected to reality.
the reality is the 09 playoffs havent started yet....youre forming a conclusion about this team based on results from the last 2 or 3 seasons? Years we had absolutely no bench..no artest. no pg besides alston. no yao last year. chuck hayes as our only PF.
You have to eventually beat the best teams to win a Championship. Besides, the Warriors and Hawks have prove in recent years that having the first or second seed does not mean you will have it easy.
I just ate a sliced beef sandwich with loads of BBQ sauce. I am not healthier, or in better shape, but I feel really comforted! As to basketball, I will watch the games when I can, but in my heart of hearts, this team isn't going anywhere. This team isn't blessed with durable players, it is just the way it is.
DAMNIT...you had to go and say it. We all know it and are probably thinking it ourselves. But, you had to go and say it. I blame the jinx on you tinman.
Adelman, in a recent interview, emphasized that the playoffs are not a given. I agree. There are 9 teams right now who are in the hunt. Lakers look like a shoe in so really it is 8 teams fighting for 7 spots. I could easily almost any of the 8 teams not making it including the Rockets. Let's not write a ticket to the first round until it happens.
I'm not concluding anything. My point is that to assume this team is "built for the playoffs" is wishful thinking. It's a collection of players who haven't done anything. You can theorize all you want, but there is no history to back it up. If at least one of the key Rockets players had some playoff history, there would be some substance. I want the Rockets to do well, but it doesn't look good right now. That could change if nearly everything goes well.
This is a great take, I never understand how people can just write this team in as a lock for the postseason. Denver won 50 games last year and was sitting at home in the playoffs. Portland is playing good ball, Dallas hasn't gone on a run yet and Denver is legit. It's gonna take at least 48 wins to sniff the 8 seed this year. As much as everyone wants to downplay regular season games they're your ticket to the postseason.
I agree with everything you said. Also, on some nights these team looks really lax on some nights and in fact play down to the competition. This team doesn't seem to be going full speed ahead, like Lakers or Celtics. Most times, I don't think it is a good thing for team to get complacent or play relaxed and down to competition, but when you look at our team. The Rockets can probably beat most teams (even the best ones) on the road...I don't really think Toyota Center is much of home-field .... more like neutral site. At times, this year....they have taken control of games when they've wanted to...see the Lakers game, Spurs in San Antonio, the first Mavs game, and a good portion of SA game. With this team....I think it is just basically get through the season in one piece and go pedal to metal late in the season going into the playoffs. I wouldn't even mind if we fail to 7 or 8, if everyone on the team relatively healthy.
