I think all of the poll options are superstars except Dwight Howard and Tim Duncan - and obviously Tim Duncan WAS a superstar. He's probably the greatest at his position of all time.
yea but lebron was also in a weak east... and his supporting cast has been as bad as everyone says. denver and LA pre-gasol both could have made it out of the 1st round in the east.
For a few years, it was just shaq and duncan. To me, i think a superstar means they can replace any teams best player and make them contenders. By using that same criteria, i really only have 1, Lebron james. I know alot of people will disagree, but i don't think kobe can turn the cavs into a contender, but i know lebron would make lakers one and keep them one. I mean his 2nd best player is mo williams.
Give Durant another season, let his sig. Shoe line kick off, a couple public appearences in china to his image in addition to him being a stellar basketball player and we'll have a super star. I still believe Durant will surpass lebron, go ahead call me crazy. The guy's got a clean image, is humble, just give him some charisma and character, and he'll be a superstar in David Stern's "let's make money off these guys sense" but also a role model.
Good observation. Probably do but remember this thread from the beginning of the season? - > Kenny Smith: "Carmelo Anthony will win MVP" And we know who Kenny Smith works for. They like to disperse the award around, dont like clumping in repeat winners unless they have to. Totally prepping it up to be "Carmelo's turn" to look prophetic.
FIRST POST. took a long long time for everything to work out. But I would have to say its Lebron Kobe D-Wade and D. Howard 4 "superstars"
If the Cavs finish 8-10 games ahead of the Nuggets in the standings, Melo has zero chance to get the MVP, especially with Chauncey Billups as a teammate. What LeBron and the Cavs are doing without their two best PGs is amazing. Meanwhile, the Nuggets keep winning WITHOUT Melo. What does that tell you? It's almost debatable who the MVP is on the Nuggets. Unless something weird happens, the MVP race is already over. Melo got the glow early in the season, but it's gone now. Nobody gives a care what Kenny Smith thinks about MVP, not even his co-hosts who work for TNT. Since when has TNT been influential on NBA issues, other than ruining the Thursday NBA schedule?
If Duncan had Shaq's personality and narcissism, he'd be considered a superstar with what he's accomplished and the numbers he's putting up this season.
it's hard to not put DH12 and Duncan in there, just because 1. dominant inside 2. makes other players better. Lebron Kobe Dwade D12 or Duncan
Durant = Carmelo they basically do the same thing for their respective teams, except Carmelo is more physical.
1) You're a Yao homer. Yao better than Melo, CP3, DH, KD and Rose? I'd put him in the "potential SS" category, Superstars don't get owned by Okur/Boozer and Perkins. 2) Superstars don't grow on trees. On average there should be around 1 per draft, and its not like the previous decade had so much SS as well (Shaq, Kobe, TD, KG, Dirk, Kidd). 3) You forgot Bosh and Brandon Roy. If you're adding Melo, then the second-tier of stars should be there so Iguadala and Granger should be there as well.
And that Durant is turning out into one of the best 3 pt shooters in history. Durant also started playing D in only his 3rd year, while it took Melo 5 years before he started playing D. top league 3 pt shooting> above average post game Durant>Melo
KD is certainly on track to be better than Melo, but right now? If he continues his recent string of closing out games strongly for the rest of the season, I'll call them equal. But specifically in late game situations, Melo is great.
