jgreen91, I'm not a "Bush-hater". But comparing him to Gale Sayers just shows how he falls short. Gale Sayers had a dynamic impact on the NFL from the beginning. Bush hasn't come close to the mega-hype he generated. You can compare their skillsets but comparing their results proves there is no comparison between the players. It's sort of like comparing Steve Novak to Larry Bird or Chuck Hayes to Charles Barkley.

Bush will be fine, but running backs usually have the easiest time having big impacts as rookies. Bush's impact is very limited so far, especially as a running back. It's doubtful Bush becomes a superstar like Gale Sayers; he's just not that good. It's probable he becomes like Metcalf, a small but needed part of what could be a very good team. If Deuce and Brees stay healthy, Saints fans have a lot to look forward to.

I think Bush is more along the lines of Westbrook than Metcalf. Westbrook used to share duties with 3 backs and returned punts, and he was excellent at it--he saved a game for the Eagles versus the Giants as Bush did on his lone NFL touchdown. Bush's isn't quite as lite duty as Metcalf.

Bush's jersey sales were number 1 before he ever did a thing for the NOS. It isn't because of what he did, it is because the city is looking for a hero and the media hype played into it that this is the guy.

Most Bush proponents around here were saying Marshall Faulk was the lowball estimate for Bush, rather he should be compared to Barry Sanders and Sayers. While I wouldn't say the Saints would pick differently, the truth is he hasn't distinguished himself as clearly better than about 5 other rookie RBs or as the best rookie on his team. In short he has been good, but he certainly hasn't seperated himself form the pack when 90%+ of the media and fans thought it was a nobrainer he would do so immediately. It is the disrespect of other greats (saying Bush will be better than Dorsett, Faulk, equal to Sayers, Sanders, etc) and downplaying of other remarkable talents in the draft that irritated folks. Couple that with Bush himself not showing much humility or deference to temper the out of whack hype or recognize his other fellow rooks.
