Thats funny. I was just telling a co-worker about how on sportscenter we hear about how Adrian Petersen only had 32 yards rushing while Reggie had 269 all purpose yards. Kind of silly. By the way, Reggie only had 29 yards rushing.
Well, Peterson is a RB. Reggie is a slot receiver/returner that is hidden at RB. AP yards are much more applicable to Reggie than Peteron as Peterson only managed 41 AP yards. 269 yards is very impressive.
Probably his best game as a pro...too bad it's well into his third year...Great speed, but not an everyday RB..
Not trying to draw a comparison between Petersen & Reggie. I am simply saying that Reggie seems to be the only player in the NFL that the media throws that stat around about. Not taking away from the boys talent, because it is way obvious that he has it. He just isnt a real RB. So he doesnt deserve comparisons to someone as solid all around as Faulk was. I dont think he is even as good as Westbrook. But this is all opinion anyways, right?
I always hear that stat for guys that return kicks as it generally overexagerates their value. This is one of the rare cases where AP yards was very impressive.
People need to stop trying to classify Reggie Bush as a way to make their arguement about him. It's way too simplistic and really shows a lack of football knowledge. Reggie's not an every-down running back, he's not a slot reciever, he's not a slot reciever hiding as a running back, he's not a glorified 3rd down back, and he's definitely not Devin Hester. Reggie Bush is a friggin football player. He was drafted to be a football player. And in that role, he's been one of the most valuable players in the league this year. You put the kid on the football field, and suddenly your offense is alot further down the field than it was before. You can try to judge him on his YPC, but that's just a small part of what he does, and quite frankly, it'd be hard for anyone to run behind the Saints offensive line, they can't run block worth a crap. But that doesn't even matter, his job isn't to run for 4.5 yards every time he gets the ball handed off to him, his job is to pick up first downs, score touchdowns, and scare the crap out of defenses into opening things up for his teammates. He seems to be doing a good job as the Saints are 4th in the NFL in yards, Reggie is tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns, and defenses are keying in on him so much that Lance Moore, Robert Meachem, Billy Miller, and Deverey Henderson are racking up yards. Most of all, though, he changes games. Scored the game winning touchdown week 1 on one of those "cheap, stat accumulating dump offs", had the go ahead punt return for touchdown week 2 that would have won the game had the Saints not collapsed, racked up 150 yards and 2 scores in a close loss at Denver, and we all saw what he did last night. There's not many players in the NFL this year who have done more to put their team in a position to win, and THAT is what is important, not HOW he does it.
Good post, Reggie Bush is a good football player and an asset to a team... but hindsight being 20/20 do you think the Saints would still invest a #2 overall pick in him?
What battle? I said Thurman Thomas was a great multi back, and so was Faulk. I don't think I'm losing that battle.
I would think they absolutely would, and I would hope they would. With Brees they obviously wouldn't have taken one of the other QBs, only other real options there were D'Brickshaw Ferguson and AJ Hawk. From what Ive heard, D-Brick hasn't lived up to the hype and while Hawk's good, Reggie has more of an impact on the game. And for the money aspect of him at #2, getting him was one of the reasons the Saints fanbase became so reenergized when they came back, so he's made the money back for the organization that way. But really, the kid is flat out making plays and being productive enough to warrant being taken that high. If you want a guy who's gonna score a buncha touchdowns for you at #2 in the draft, then Reggie's that guy.
Show me where I compared Bush to Faulk. Read before you assume. I was comparing Thurman Thomas to Faulk.
Here's the list of NFL players who have more touchdowns than Reggie Bush this year. Big list, huh? I don't care what his hype was, when no one in the league has more touchdowns than you, you can claim to be racking up the TDs. 1st 2 years maybe not, but we're talking right now, and right now he's one of the top players in the league.
First, you criticize others for classifying Bush, oversimplifying their arguments and lacking knowledge of the game. Then, you proceed to classify him, oversimplify your argument and raise immediate questions about your knowledge of the game. I just thought that was pretty hypocritical and funny.
REally??? I think Mario is clearly #1 on that list. I think you'd get more value out of a guy like Slaton in the 3rd round than what you'd get from Bush.
Stop hatin' on my fellow 10/07er, hater. He didn't oversimplify anything. He pointed out how a straight athlete like Reggie Bush is an asset to any team because of his versatility. People want to judge him because he isn't super-effective as an everydown back. Games like last night show why exciting players like Reggie Bush have a place in the NFL. Hater.
