Under pressure since his award winning 2005 campaign at Southern California was vacated, Bush said in a statement on Tuesday that he will forfeit the Heisman Trophy. "One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005," the statement released by the New Orleans Saints reads. "For me, it was a dream come true. But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name. "It is for these reasons that I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005." The NCAA passed down sanctions on USC relating to improper benefits received by Bush and basketball player O.J. Mayo. The Heisman Trust has been reviewing whether Bush should have his award taken away but had not made a decision.
^ No mention of how dirty the Heisman was, no apology, nothing that says he admits something went wrong somewhere and that's why he's handing it back? I don't think it's stupid, Lil Pun. If he and the USC leadership know there was wrongdoing, then they're doing the proper thing. Don't you think?
I'm talking about the scrutiny he faced afterward when other Heisman winners have done worse things and they were asked or had it considered that they should give back the award.
What other Heisman winners have been ruled ineligible by the NCAA? Some of you don't get it. You CAN'T DO WORSE than this. If you are not an eligible college football player, you cannot play the game and you certainly can't win awards designed for eligible student athletes. End of story.
That game Texas shut him down only 13 carries 82 yards. But his stats for that season were off the charts but so were Vince youngs. I hope they give the heisman to VY but I doubt they will.
No question he was, if not THE BEST, one of the top 3 players of his time. No question, either, that USC and the entire season in which Bush received the trophy is tainted. Bush is just doing the proper thing, so that his award is not tarnished. I admire Reggie's humanitarian efforts and actually like the guy off the field... *save for a bad "marriage"... but he's just doing this so people stop wondering, I think.
What was your point in posting that little link above then? Why not reiterate that there too? Homer much? I'm really with DonnyMost, do away the damn award because in the end it really doesn't mean squat except a bunch of people liked the player more than the other options available.
Because he didn't deserve the award, even if he was eligible. I don't see what's out of line in pointing that out. It's not like I'm going back on my opinion. He wasn't eligible, but even if he was, he wasn't the best player.
