I assume you meant Bush is not, but I would argue that Bush is a local story seeing as how he is about to be drafted #1 by the local football team.

I'm not annoyed by people having an opinion about who should be drafted, but thanks for calling me stupid anyway.

Which is why I wrote this sentence:

And by the way, other Chronicle columnsts are going above and beyond the call of duty to downpaly dissappointment in not drafting a hometown hero:

Good grief, any further comment necessary? That's a texas-sized tea bag job if there ever was one - he takes the amateurism of Justice and McClain to a whole other level.

    You didn't?

That obviously implies that you are annoyed at Rich Lord, Richard Justice, and John McLain for wanting the Texans to draft Vince Young. I know you're not annoyed that members of the media are advocating this because that's their job. They're paid to give their opinions. The only reason I made the stupid comment was because of your comment calling the VY "obsession" (gimme a break) stupid. The reasons why there are many people in Houston who want VY to be chosen by the Texans are not stupid. One may disagree with them-and honestly, I'm one of them at this point-but that doesn't mean they're stupid.

it was the whole reason I flew off the chain, I'm obssessed and its stupid. its funny, the texans had a chance to draft chris simms, but no one in their right mind argued for that. maybe we actually think vince young deserves the number one pick for several reasons including his ability.

Did you stop reading the article, before the last paragraph?

He's just commenting about the jersey number and how fitting it would be for a Texans athlete to wear it, when it has legendary meaning.

    Lighten up.

Well, I don't see why Bush isn't already a local story seeing as how everyone and their Mother knows the Texans are going to draft him.

He's going to be the Texans's #1 pick. That's a local story no matter what day it becomes official.

Please try to stay on the topic of the thread. Thanks.

I think the main thing that Jeff is trying to say is that the media "shouldn't" be biased. And its disrespectful to Reggie Bush who now that everyone knows has a 99% chance of being the #1 overall pick and making his home in Houston.

I wouldn't call anyone who wants VY to come here stupid. That is understandable, but at this point, with all that is known, why are people still talking like its probable to happen? I don't think anyone is stupid for wanting him here, time will tell that may actually be the correct "want", but I do think people are blockheaded who think that there is still a chance that he will be chosen #1 overall. And the media should realize this too and move on and show Mr. Bush some more respect.

...which is why I wrote the sentence about him increasingly becoming a local story. Please go to this website and tell me that he's not being treated as one:

Honest to goodness folks, it's a long offseason. I'm sure you'll get your fill of puff-pieces on up-to-the-second Reggie Bush minutiae sometime between now and the next decade. So just relax and sit tight...

You certainly have lots of rules on the way the fans, media, etc. are supposed to act - which is apparently to march in lockstep with whatever you think is right. You should write them down so that we're ON NOTICE.

But these are sports talk radio people, not newscasters, right? (I don't live in Houston, so I don't listen to any of them) Sports talk radio people are there to discuss opinions and always push viewpoints, whatever they may be. They aren't paid to be cheerleaders of the Texans or Rockets or whatnot. They criticize the franchises, coaches, players, etc when they feel they did some wrong, and vice-versa. I don't see why this would be different.

The only difference between them and us and is that they get to spout their crap on the radio, and we do it here. :)

Its not rules. Its called having a little bit of class and handling yourself professionally. I hold the media to those standards.

I think Jeff's main gripe was the fox 26 special they had. So yea, those were newscasters. I think everyone takes Rich Lord's comments (on all subjects) with a grain of salt. Hes just a guy off the street like you and me with an opinion who somehow got onto the radio doing sportstalk.
