You're right, moon had to change his style to play in the nfl, so did doug williams because both were the most athletic mobile qbs ever. so did akili smith

Such anger. For some reason I find it funny that the biggest Young supporters in this thread for the most part didn't go to UT.

With regards to Rich Lord pimpin' Young I offer this: the one time I have listened to their show in the last two months or so the topic of JJ Redick came up. Rich, of course, likes him and talked about his pro prospects. He concluded by saying that he does have some holes in his game but "he is a top five pick" and Mark chimed in "definitely". That little exchange still makes me laugh and represents their show quite well.

T-Man..stop...seriously. you're hurting me. the only thing those QB's share is skin color. Moon is so different from them, it's silly. Moon was a drop-back passer in college just as he was in the pros. Ridiculously accurate with a strong arm.

Cunningham could run, but his arm wasn't questioned. He was 10x the passer Vick is.

McNair went to a system that let him play his strengths. He didn't adapt nearly as much as the system adapted to allow him to be himself. And it worked, by the way.

Too many times since the Rose Bowl I've heard people group Young in with players who are "similar" only to find that the similarity is nothing but skin color. Someone here did it with Akili Smith...who could not play a more different game than VY. And Moon??? Moon doesn't have half the athletecism that VY has in terms of being able to run. They're just not comparable.

I actually called in when they said the reddick was a top five pick because they said the rockets had no chance to get him. both those guys really need to have their employment exmained by their superiors.

I think reggie bush is a safe pick, moreso than VY...

this is coming from a person who volunteered in the VY06 campaign

picking reggie bush is like investing in a precious metal

Not to take away from the Vince Young talk, but does anyone have a recap of what REGGIE BUSH said yesterday. It is him who we are drafting, and thats who I want to hear about.

well there are some guys reporting that he slipped and said when he is drafted by houston. I heard some of the replay on the way home and when he was asked about being drafted he said he felt 50/50 that it was a done decision but he understood things can change.

btw, for all the complaints about the chronicle, today was Bush day on the front page of the sports section with a big ass picture of his mug on the front so please stop with that talk. john lopez (aggie) has been a big supporter of bush since the rose bowl and he has the featured column.

As I SAID, I will be happy with whomever we choose. But, I do not care for the biased coverage by local media. Fox 26 covered Bush's pro day for like 15 seconds in their story Sunday and then did a 2-minute story on a charity program Vince Young does. Berman didn't even go to the Bush pro day, opting instead to cover VY's charity event locally.

The Chron, since April, has had a "Vince Watch" blog on the site. Yesterday, they finally decided to add a "Reggie Watch" blog, but it isn't even its own blog. It is just the "Sports Update on Special Events" blog where they put his info that includes a post on the Texans schedule.

In the Sports section today online, the FEATURED blog is "Vince Watch."

Rich Lord actively campaigns for him. When McClain FINALLY decided the Texans were taking VY, he openly began campaigning with the Titan's Floyd Reece to draft VY so that the Texans and Titans could continue that rivaly. Richard Justice has openly campaigned the Texans to draft VY.

I mean, am I the only one who finds this to be more than a little weird? Ok, VY fans, what if the same thing was happening but for Matt Leinart or Reggie Bush? Wouldn't you find it annoying.

Being someone who studied journalism in school and had a father, uncle and aunt who all worked in media, this kinda thing just irritates me. It has very little to do with Reggie Bush or Vince Young and it is no fault of their own. I'm sure they will both make terrific pros. This is about the coverage of the story and the incredible bias locally.

I found the way Steve Francis was run out of town very annoying. I know exactly what you're talking about, but one thing I've learned in the past three years, expecting objectivity from sports journalists all over the country is an exercise in futility.

    Jeff,

There's just not much to report right now. Until then, what is known will be reported (ad nauseam).

Why anyone would be surprised by the local media covering one of the biggest sports stars to ever come out of this area leaves me dumbfounded. That and being annoyed at people having an opinion on who the Texans should draft. Talk about stupid.

It's a local paper - given the homogenization of news generally and the availability of the internet the movement in daily newspapers recently has been to increase coverage of local news - which Young is and Vince is not.

Giving increased coverage of national and international stories is a losing proposition - when people want news on Iraq - they'll go to CNN or another more national or international source. In this case when people want Reggie Bush "news" the guy is all over ESPN and every other major sports network, so that is where people will turn. I'm sure the San Diego papers have had more stories on Reggie Bush than Vince Young even though there's no chance the Chargers will draft either.

Vince (being a native son) is a national story and a local story. Reggie Bush is just a national story - and may become a local story at some point in the future. Once that happens, the focus will shift between the two (which you can see is already happening, hence the "bush watch" blog.

Look at it in another context - it's like getting mad that the Chronicle has covered the Enron trial more than the Moussaoui trial. They're both national news, but one is a local story which is going to generate more local interest - of course it's going to get more coverage.
