I'm so pumped about Bush because everybody talks about how bad of game he had at the Rose Bowl when he rushed for 82 yards on 13 carries(6.3 YPC), and had 6 receptions for 95 yards. I give UT credit for shuting down Bush and holding him to 177 yards offense and 9.3 yards per touch.

VY against Texas A&M this season went 13/24 for 162 yards, and 1 TD/1 INT. He also had 11 rushes for 19 yards. Now if we are only going to look at one games performance, what does this say VY will do in the pros?

Bottom line is one game means nothing. They are both premier talents and I hope they both do well in the pros.

For the most part, fans are homers. Myself included, of course. But when a team (in this case, the Texans) makes it incredibly obvious what they're going to do, fans tend to get behind that choice of action until proven otherwise. It's become more and more obvious that they're taking Bush, and now the percentage of Bush fans is increasing? No kidding.

Take a look at the Astros. Most Astros fans, including many on this board, scoffed at the name Preston Wilson and players like him on the market. But, when he joined the team... over time, any hostility faded and people got behind the team. Same effect is happening here. It's fairly obvious Bush is going to be a Texan... why waste the energy to argue it anymore? It's happening, let's just rally around it as Texan fans and hope it works out. That's what some are already doing.

Also, it's not that I don't like Reggie Bush, but some of the "reasons" to draft him are amusing. More media sites and fan sites have him ranked higher? That's great. Those same media sites had Tim Couch as the consensus #1, Ben Roethlisberger as the third quarterback overall, Tom Brady as a sixth rounder... etc. Those same media sites were comparing the 2005 USC football team among the greatest of all-time - before they had even completed their season. If you genuinely think Bush is a better prospect than Young, that's fine... but the "so and so says so" argument is weak. Media folks are wrong all the time.

...wow...you are like the first person EVAR to bring that up.

Sadly, that stat line is better than David Carr in a lot of games last year.

    college vs. pros?????

I think just about any and every arguement regarding Bush and Young has already been discussed in the sticky above. Just like the statement that Bush got shut down in the Rose Bowl.

Good luck finding a new take on the situation.

The question Reggie Bush or Vince Young shouldn't even be debated anymore.. The real question should be:

What number will Reggie Bush wear on the Texans?

I think 33 should be his number. I'm not sure why, but I can just picture him wearing 33.

first of all, your initial post was the sensitive and secondly I remember specifically you after the rose bowl saying you didn't think young could be an nfl qb. I remember that because I was surprised to even see you talking texans football.

edit: that's not what you wrote but this is what you wrote,
but you did write he was going to come in and struggle, and even if that's the reason you don't want young, I still don't understand. the texans were 2-14 last year, they aren't goint to the playoffs no matter who they draft.

    WOW!!!!

That was some interesting information to read.....

Bush or Young... Both full of a lot of potential and superior atheltic skills for their positions. So which one should the Texans take.

Well, I had the opportunity to sit down with some ex-nfl players to ask them the same questions and basically they broke it down like this for me.

    1) The quarterback position is one of the hardest if not the hardest position to learn. It takes more than just physical athletic talent to play this position, it takes a lot studying and the ability to read and understand everything that is happening in a game.

VY reminds me a lot of Cunningham with a mix Vick and unfortunantely both of these guys relied on their legs instead of their arms. Most running quarterbacks:

    a) Don't last long in the nfl
    b) Don't win championships

If you look at Culpper, McNabb, McNair, Vick, Cunningham and even Moon; they either had to change their style of play to be more of a drop back passer or they are changing their style to be more of a drop back passer.

It takes most qb's about 5 years to finally start learning and knowing how to play the position. This is thru a fire and damation process of just being thrown to the Sharks. Even then it's a flip of a coin to see if they will sink or swim.

    2) On the other hand the rb back position relies on incredible instinct, talent, heart and determination. Most rookie rb's who have gone to bad teams have been able to adapt a lot faster ala "Ladamien Tomlison, Gayle Sayers, Barry Sanders."

It takes them a shorter time to adjust and also to learn their position...

So basically it just breaks down as this... The Texans can do no wrong in drafting VY or Bush, it basically breaks down to what they need and what can help them accomplish their goals faster.

Houston feel as if Kubiak can and will help Carr turn things around and plus he has all ready been thru the initation phase. This is not to say that Carr is better than VY, it's to say that with VY you are starting at ground zero at your qb position.

The guys I spoke with all felt like Bush would be able to help the Texans accomplish their goals faster then VY at this present time.
