as far as #2 overall picks, he and Darko are up there as most helpful in getting their teams far in the playoffs.
Hate to bump an old thread, but I was looking for Bush's combine stats and found this gem. It's quite possibly the ultimate jinx thread. Bush just had a phenonmenal year with the Lions. He's finally in a system that utilizes him correctly and honestly he's about in his prime right now and going strong. Because the Saints never used him correctly he didn't take the pounding that most RBs take so he still has a good 4-5 years ahead of him which is rare for a RB. Going into next season he's easily a top 5 running back in the NFL. He's basically coming off back to back to back 1000 yard seasons averaging around 5 YPC. That's damn impressive. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/cAs3ABsG0yI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/X7BeD5--vBI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Bush is a guy that relies on elusiveness and speed. Those things will go away over time regardless of how much pounding you take. I'll admit Bush has been better than I thought he would be after he never amounted to much of a runner with New Orleans, but I think expecting him to have 4-5 more good years is a stretch.
Went from once-in-a-generation talent... to castoff... to pro-bowl caliber. Not as special as he was supposed to be, but not as much of a "bust" that people thought he was. His career arc (college included) very similar to the NBA comparison of Vince Carter.
...considering that the post you picked out is about the playoffs, and that Bush never did any of this on a playoff team, it is not even close to *the* ultimate jinx thread. In fact, even if you were a lazy bum and doing a buzzfeed style listicle of "10 amazing jinxes" - let alone, ascending unto the hallowed ranks of an *ultimate* jinx thread, and even becoming, as you propound, THE, as in singular, epochal, era-defining archetypal prima inter pares, ULTIMATE jinx thread - i'd be hard pressed to merit its inclusion. Now it's quite possible that some jinx-ish effect has occurred here, moestavern19 is a figure of some repute around here - not just among the denizens of various bus terminals.
Took him a while, but he finally figured out that he needed to stop dancing around in the backfield and hit the hole hard. I give Reggie props for fitting into a system and becoming a good running back in all phases of the game.
Easily top 5? Each of these guys had more yards and more yards per carry than Bush: Lesean McCoy Jamaal Charles Adrian Peterson Matt Forte Alfred Morris Demarco Murray I think most people would put Marshawn Lynch in the top tier as well. Bush was 13th in yards and 14th in ypc and was nowhere close to 5 yards per carry in either of the last two seasons. How does he end up "easily" a top 5 back?
Didn't live up to the hype, true. Not a bust, true. That's a pretty good comparison actually, Vince Carter.
Going into next season, I think he's a top 5 back. I stand behind that. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say that especially with the Lions high power offense and all the attention Megatron gets. It's a dream situation for Bush as long as he stays healthy. He was actually banged up a bit last year and missed 2 games. My post was highlighting the past 3 season, the 3 seasons since this thread was started. If someone averaged 4.5, 4.3, and 5.0 yards respectively in the past 3 seasons which averages out to 4.6 YPC, how could you say they were no where close to 5 ypc? Yes I get it, it's not exactly 5.0 ypc, but 4.6 YPC average is not even close? And why cherry pick the past 2 season to prove your point when I'm talking about the past 3. Come on Major. You guys seem top be cherry picking small details to argue against me. Sambo Fisher up above mentioned the playoffs in his ramble and something about Darko who never performed in the regular season OR playoffs. Bush was at least a contributor to the Saints 2010 super bowl. Also it was his first year with the Lions, I would expect his role to be bigger next season with his knowledge of the offense more solid - so I would expect big things, and I personally can't name 5 backs I'd rather have ahead of him if I'm the Lions. I wouldn't take Matt Forte, Alfred Morris, or Demarco Murray ahead of him out of the guys you named.
huh? What a silly ramble. That's the best you've got? At least be a man like Moes and admit you were proven wrong and give the man some props for turning his career around.
The context of the thread was another poster foolishly postulating Bush was a Barry Sanders type back IIRC. I'd say Matt Forte and Reggie are similar. Not great yardage churning runners, but great receivers who can break long gains. Although Forte was overused this year, Trestman might have worn all the tread off those tires.
Taking into account contracts I'd rather have Bush over Mario right now and of course over VY. Bush got the last laugh. Everyone got pwned.
Probably because your post specifically referenced coming off "back to back" seasons where he averaged 5.0 ypc, when the reality was that his back to back seasons were 4.5 and 4.3? 4.4 ypc <> 5.0 ypc. He's basically coming off back to back to back 1000 yard seasons averaging around 5 YPC. That's damn impressive. Why would I assume you're talking about 3 seasons when you say this?
Reggie is definitely the winner of the Bush v. Young v. Mario contest -- hard to believe Bush is about to turn 29 yo. Bush seems to be going the Tiki Barber route and is getting better later in his career.
You even quoted me and you're still wrong. Did I say back to back or did I say back to back to back? Come on Major... off your game a bit tonight. Please find something else to cherry pick because you missed this one.
