Comparison of the Heisman trophy winners. 2006 Stats Ron Dayne 62 ATT 183 YDS 3.0 YPC Reggie Bush 81 ATT 207 YDS 2.6 YPC
Can you decipher this for us non-United-States born people? Excellent point, CasaDeHielo. He doesn't want to get "levelled" by a linebacker. He wants to keep running outside and get hit only by defensive backs... wuss. Ordinary. ORDINARY? In the words of Terrell Owens on Monday Night Football: Are you EFFIN' kiddin' me??!?!?!?! Oh, yeah, they're forbidden from saying: TOTALLY SUCK-a-delic. Reggie Bush SUCKS.

so mario hasn't been hurting with his toe injury? maybe we can use that for an excuse too. and if you think running the ball at a 4.4 YPC clip isn't running the ball good then i don't know what to say.
4 mentions of his bad ankle in one paragraph. Are you trying to convince us or yourself? Whe exactly did this ankle injury occer?
Duece did not have great numbers until Ricky Williams left NO. You can't judge Bush until he becomes the guy
he would have to give the saints some reason to make him "the guy" other than his college highlights. so far, it's hard to make the argument that deuce should be elsewhere and reggie should be "the guy." he's not exactly making the most of his opportunities.
He didn't have great numbers but he didn't look bad either, in very limited PT, and does not face the same doubts (to small & can't run between the tackles) that Bush did, and that Bush is failing to dispel....so far. Bush is on pace to have around 150-160 carries, about 10x as many as Deuce had his rookie season.
In the Rose Bowl . . .. When Vince shook their whole Defense Reggie tried to catch . . . but he got his ankle broken too Rocket River should not have stolen the Heisman from the Houstonian
This just in... Reggie Bush forgot something at home and tried to rush home, but he was pushed -5 yards back.
New Orleans got rid of Ricky Williams after Deuce's rookie year (5.4 yds/carry) assured them he was more than ready to take over. Larry Johnson was clearly ready to be the man well before Priest was injured. If Deuce were to blow his achilles tomm, what are the chances that Bush starts giving them near 100 yd games on the ground? With a clear inability to go between the tackles, I would be frightened of that thought if I were from La. Evan
I would only worry for the next 3 games after Deuce goes down. I don't think they have focused on Reggie running between the tackles and he's hitting the holes before they develop. If Sean Peyton wasn't working Reggie all over the field he'd be a more productive runner. For the most part, what they're asking Reggie to do is to run routes, pick up the blitz, and keep the defense honest by running. It doesn't make any sense to try and pound Reggie up the middle when you have Deuce. If the Saints focus on pounding Reggie up the middle for 2 games and still can't get it right... then scream "bust". Just don't miss out on your "I told you so" cookies...
WHy not scream bust (if it continues)? Bush was not sold to us as a guy who would "run routes, pick up the blitz, and keep the defense honest by running", he was sold to us (both on this BBS and in the national media cavalcade of hype & hysteria) as Gale Sayers/Barry Sanders/Marshall Faulk/LaDainian Tomlinson, who wasn't going to just "keep the defense honest" but be a solid, every down, 20-30 carry per game guy. Go investigate the Monster "Bush, Young or someone else" thread that was in this forum. When people said "Eric Metcalf/scatback", they were labeled as R.B. detractors, the Reggie Brigade was saying that that bar was way too low and the proper standard was Marshall Faulk or Barry Sanders.
No... it doesn't. When he stops trying to break everything for a touchdown, slows everything down a bit, and turns North and South... he'll bust out. In my opinion you have to give him a game or two as the main RB option, with the focus on running and not lining up all over the field. I am not sold until I see it with my own eyes either. The Saints didn't pump Reggie Bush to the moon and say he will walk onto the field and be Marshall Faulk. I don't understand how you can hold Reggie to the standards of talking heads when they have nothing to do with how he's being used. How you can blast Reggie for not being a 20-30 rush, every down back when he hasn't been tried that way? It's like blaming Wali Lundy for not having 6 catches a game while he is running the ball well.
Becuase he isn't even an effective 10-carry back (which is about what he's been getting), he hasn't been able to use his outside speed as a runner, as some questioned, and he doesn't seem like the kind of back who would get effective with more carries as a 'punisher'; rather he seems like the kind of guy who needs a punisher for him (a la Lendale White); in other words a role player. He was sold to us by his hype machine as somebody who would redefine the position and rank with the all time greats, not as a role player.
