even if he's right...then why do you pick him there? if he's not gonna be the featured back, why drop the #2 pick on him??? those were the concerns by texans fans here about reggie...and we didn't have someone like deuce for him to compete with.
i spoke to one of my coworkers who live in La. about this very matter yesterday, we started off talking about the Saints and how he was still hesitant to throw his caution to the wind in his support of a perenially bad team. Then we moved on to Reggie and Mario. It went something like this, I mentioned Reggie first and he chuckled like "The Texans passed HIM up for Mario" I chuckled and mentioned the 2.6 ypc and said actually most fans round here have seen major improvement in Mario from week to week and probably wouldn't change a thing if we had it to do over again. This poor guy was speechless, it was like someone had just stole his tongue for minute and then he went into Reggie defense mode, giving all the excuses at which point I just kind of let the phone go silent, the next words out of his mouth were, "Reggie has to learn that he is not going to be able to bounce every run outside like he did in college." Booyakasha
All I got to say is "boom, sha, lock, lock, boom...." Courtesy of House Of Pain. "Yes, he isnt doing much but he's really a decoy. No wait scratch that, he is a scatback better equipped to catch dump off passes. No, no he is a much better PR/KR option. So I guess LJ is a decoy to Trent Green and Huard. LT is a decoy to Philip Rivers and of course, Moroney is a decoy to Tom Brady. This just in ... decoy factor works only temporarily especially in the NFL, better get a new wrinkle working on sprouting Reggie. This is sounding more and more like Marshall Faulk meets Rocket Ismail. BTW, Rocket's career was comparatively short, I believe less than a decade. Marshall great at SDSU but again different scene in the NFL and in Indy he mostly was the forgotten man. In STL, he did better but still wasnt an every down back but back then, STL hardly ever wanted to run the football.
I could be wrong. really, I could be. But, Laurence Maroney isn't the featured back in New England, is he? I could be wrong about that. Let's see how he's faired so far. through 8 games 107 rushes, 458 yards, 4.3 YPC, 3 TDs 10 catches, 109 yards, 10.9 YPC if anyone's a decoy, it should be Maroney, but he actually produces.
He has the most carries out of the backs New England plays, but he does share time with both Dillon and Faulk. I thought Maroney would end up being the best RB out of the draft and he has not disappointed.
faulk had some pretty good seasons with indy, he gained 1282 yards as a rookie with 500 receiving, and they were a playoff team. he had another 1300 yard season there and one of the reasons he was traded was they felt peyton should have been the leader of the team. anyone remember faulk's first game against the cody carlson led oilers. disaster.
Hold your seats: Bill Simmons has called Reggie out as being terrible, and that the Texans may have made the right call passing on him. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/061110 Evan
here's what he says: Texans (+10.5) over JAGS We're now at the stage of the Mario Williams-Reggie Bush saga when every true Texan fan on the planet (A) knows that Reggie Bush is averaging only 2.6 yards per carry, and (B) had mentioned that to at least 10 of his friends in the past few days, accompanied by a line like, "Hey, maybe this worked out for the best!" And you know what? You might be right. Bush looks terrible. I know he's been a valuable decoy, but it doesn't explain why he's stutter-stepping behind the line on every rush. It looks like he spent the summer studying Thomas Jones' game films from his Arizona days. Step it up, Reggie.
Yes, agreed in that respect. But you have to say Eric Dickerson was far more a fearsome back to deal with for the Oilers than Faulk. The only difference comparing Faulk to Bush is Reggie clearly has top to bottom and on both sides of the ball a better supporting cast thus, legitimizing the argument why cant Reggie get numbers if he's so good?
This must pain ESPN terribly ... there is no other organization more arrogant than these guys. For them to eat crow on this one must be a real pisser. While they're at it they should apologize to the Texans organization for ripping their 1st rd pick, Mr Mario Williams. Of course, that would assume these guys have class when we know it more like cl-ASS!
Reggie Bush 15 yard TD run. It is highlight worthy! See I knew he was good! Someone change the title to Vince Young is a BUST, please.
Why do you think espn even cares? Its like the Rutgers fans holding up signs saying ESPN gives them no respect. Everyone likes to attack ESPN only because they are the biggest sports network. All they do is report on what happens or has happend or what fans want to see. They have no rooting interest for any particular players. Reggie Bush does not have an ESPN contract like he does with Adidas. Anyone who thinks ESPN is this big, hype driven evil empire who is out to get everyone is an idiot.
And the haters, HATE IT. That was a sweet freakin' run by the way regardless if you are or aren't a Bush fan.
I agree with this. ESPN is just a media organization, they can get things wrong. They aren't out to get anyone. It's just a common refrain from fans that their teams and players get no respect.
Someone should start a new thread for that, "The titans got ripped off". Fisher & the coaches wanted Leinart all along.
If people are mad at ESPN, then they should be mad at all talk show hosts on AM, fox sports, every NFL website out there that writes articles, because when the Texans passed on Bush, it was more than just ESPN who was like, wtf?
Why I would be mad is cuz I'm in southern California. The LOCAL coverage added with the national attention to Bush is what makes it annoying. Especially being near LA who doesn't even have an NFL team to root for.
