The Clippers game the other night brought back bad memories of the Golden State playoff series. Thankfully, it was just a regular season game and we still had a chance to win it but this will continue to be an issue as the NBA does not discipline refs for poor performance. Sure they put out a fake care report the next day saying “sorry” but then you see these same refs being used over and over throughout the biggest games in the playoffs. Guess we need to become more popular so the Vegas money tilts our way…..
accountability from who though? there is no discipline because the higher ups are the ones telling the refs what calls to make. Like you said the only way to influence reffing is to become a huge market team that pulls $ in for the NBA
A sign of being good again, is even noticing ref calls itself again. Dont care much about calls when its tanking. Now it all off a sudden matters when its winning lol. Key is to keep winning, and to be a good story about it.
At the end of the day most if not all sports have become entertainment companies. Like WWE they create heroes and villains, fan favorite's and historical Cinderella stories to tell that can only happen in their sport. The athletes get paid an insane amount of money because they are literally the product and not the sport. The sport is 2nd to the star therefor the league will always take care of the star over the actual sport, they will always cater to the stars that make them the most amount of money and that's why refs aren't ever going to be held accountable. They need human error in order to justify certain things that happen during games that determine the outcome. It will always be this way.
This is the only way to curb it. Pay them by performance, from best to worst, and make the salary differences huge. Only put the best performing officials in the playoffs, with the best of the best in the Finals, and Quarter-Finals. Give huge bonuses for the year by performance. None of the worst performing officials should even officiate in the playoffs.
Some of them are awful that female ref from the Clippers is one of the worst, Tony Brothers is ass, so many are just god awful. DD
Rockets still would have won if Jalen Green ran some time off the clock (up by 3 with a little over a minute left) instead of going full speed into two defenders like he lost his mind. If it weren't for that and Jabari in that Spurs game, Rockets would be 8-2 sitting at first in the West. They're in LA again so they should already know refs are going to suck. They just need to play smart. If Jalen doesn't show himself capable of being a go-to player in a month or two, he might be out of here. The Rockets are an upgrade away from being championship contenders.
That game made media attention with Hardens buzzer beater and first win. They're still dysfunctional where the pieces don't fit, but the attack dogs are silenced now. Why would the league clamp down on their own script?
Two critical no calls in the last 2 mins. L2M Report (nba.com) Q4 01:39.0 Foul: Personal James Harden Alperen Sengun INC Video Comment: Harden (LAC) initiates contact with Sengun's (HOU) arm that causes him to lose control of the ball. Q4 00:49.2 Foul: Personal Kawhi Leonard Jalen Green INC Video Comment: Leonard (LAC) initiates contact to Green's (HOU) wrist and the contact causes him to lose control of the ball.
I was watching the Spurs the other night and the calls Wemby got and those he got away with really irritated me. That rat b*stard is already getting Lebron treatment ..... He sets a pick and literally shoves the opposing player with both hands full extension, right in front of the ref with no call. **** that guy and **** the Spurs.
