check over these two links and see if they help... http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmd_stp_hwpg.asp http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=311564 get back to me in the morning...we'll figger this out
one more thing... You say that it only does it when you get online? Is that the only time it does it? If so, the first place I would check would be the network card(IIRC, you are on high speed?) If so, go get the newest driver for the network card. The second link I posted goes thru the details of diagnosis by removing all extra peripherals and hooking them up one at a time to see which one is causing the problems.. I would also give that a shot if the driver thing doesnt work. disconnect/uninstall everything except you video card and HD and CD. Run it for a while and see if it still does it. If not, install one device..make sure you are using the latest drivers for them..if still no problems...instal the next device..etc..etc.. Good deal GriffFan...fdisk do it for ya?
Well I don't know if it would actually be the network card because the computer restarted before I had actually was connected to the Internet but I believe I had a different error message I'm not sure though and it is restarting an awful lot now. Here are two things which I noticed: 1. My family from distant places uploads pictures on our families own, private MSN Group page. I noticed that when I went to the group and tried to view photos I could so for only about 10 minutes. I tried this three times with our group and my computer was restarted both times. I tried another group on MSN Groups that was public and the computer restarted as usual. 2. Whenever I play music files on a player (Windows Media, Kazaa) and try to access the Internet I usually end up getting my computer restarted. On a side note, my girl got booted off when trying to access her e-mail account on Yahoo! but that was the only time. I just received the latest driver for my video card from one of my Windows Updates. What if I do not know the manufacturer of my network card, how can I get updated drivers? I noticed my connection is sort of slow but I am sharing bandwith with a roommate through a hub. I have suspected my RAM as being the culprit all this time, if my RAM is the culprit would my computer even start up? What kind of error messages would I get if it was my RAM? After starting up after a restart Windows sends and error report and shows me why a report was sent. The report shown to me says that it is indeed a driver issue but Windows could not tell which piece of hardware was causing the problem. Whew it's late, if I think of anything else I'll post it in the morning at work. Thanks a million R2K!
well. then go thru the procedure outlined above. Yank everything out. except for RAM and HD. play around on it, play music creat files...play games..whatever. See if it screws up.. If not..connect one item(CD-ROM) use the computer for a while and see if it screws up. If not..install network card use the computer for a while...play games, listen to music or whatever...except this time...go online and surf or whatever.. see if it acts up then. basically..what is happening is that the device instructions loaded from the driver files are being corrupted in memory while you are using the machine...it sets a fault code that Windows cant deal with and wa-la..reboot time. It could be the physical memory location that is at fault...or it could be the actual instructions from the driver files conflicting with system memory storage space... we cant tell for sure at this point.. Im sure my explanation is hard to understand...I understand what is happening..but it is tough to explain it to a non-techie. just go thru the diagnostic procedures and see where it starts to screw up again..and there we have the problem. If you dont feel like going thru all the trouble and you have the extra cash...go buy a bog ass stick of RAM..256 or 512 of SDRAM should do it...remove all your old RAM and install the one stick. See if it continues to fail. those are your two options...good luck.
hey R2K Lil Pun asked me to return this post he said he spoke to a guy from a tech place up here and the guys said that if the RAM fits your mobo then XP will accept it so Pun was wondering if his mobo could be the problem Pun said he only has one stick of ram 216 mb in his computer because he took it apart and he plans on buying another stick tomorrow and he'll see if RAM actually is the problem he said he may go and buy another network card since they only cost around 5 bucks but what he was realy wanting to know is whether or not his mobo could be the problem because he doesn't wanna waste money on buying an un-needed part here's the website for hi mobo but it's in a different language or something http://de.shuttle.com/ak12.htm#ak12a
well...of course XP will accept it. Xp only has RAM size requirements, it doesnt care what type it is as long as it is the right kind for the mobo. Buying more RAM is one option, of course(see above) If that is the way you want to go....since you only have 256 in it as of right now...and the cost of RAM is so cheap, go ahead and get another stick...and run the machine on that(the new stick) to see if the problem continues. That will eliminate the old RAM as the problem if the problem continues. If the RAM isnt the problem, just keep both sticks in...it certainly wont hurt. If the problem goes away by running on the one new stick, then you can trash the old one. I would wait on the net card till after we eliminate(or not) the RAM as the problem.
Buy a HUMONGOUS hard drive, attach it. Copy EVERYTHING to it. Connect it as the C: drive. Turn it on. VOilá. Bigger Hard drive, more space to save por... I mean, your work.
Well instead of going and buying new RAM I just took out the RAM in my mobo now and and blew it off the set it back in, seems to be fine.....for now.
Is there any software on the net that is free and compatible with any webcam? I bought an IBM PC Camera for $1 yet it didn't come with software. I also need drivers. I looked on IBM.com and found nothing.
If that fixes it...then you would have had a prime lesson and a reminder to me to K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid I guess a reseat of the stick should have been the first recommendation, I fell into the trap of not thinking simplistically. Keep us updated.
