Damn Rocketbooster, that's gotta be the funniest thing I've heard all day. Comparing Langhi and Abdur-Rahim is ridiculous. Langhi is a marginal NBA player at best, while Abdur-Rahim is a Dream Teamer. When will people stop bringing up that stupid Rocky Mountain Revue crap. So what if Langhi dunked on some scrub who can't even hold an NBA player's jock? ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
I watched the Rocky Mountain Revue, actually. Langhi was nice, he made a few shots, and dunked a bit too. But it was against summer-league competition. Abdur Rahim is a dream player. He can really be amazing. He would provide the Rockets with boards and points. He would give Francis a legitimate go-to guy. The Rockets, if they got Shareef, would make the playoffs, easily. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Langhi and Rahim!? Langhi will be a nice player, but he will NOT be in Rahim's league, and even if he is, it will not be for several years. I can't believe you don't want Rahim because he didn't dunk in somebody's face, grab his crotch and scream. That isn't the only way to show emotions. Would you have passed up Dream? He didn't do that. Same way with Grant Hill. Grant Hill and David Robinson and Tim Duncan and other similar players, who didn't "dunk a ball in another players mug, with a twittling nose, a menacing smirk upon his brow, all while grabbing his crotch, yelling like a wild boar?" but if they were available in their primes would you pass them up because they didn't do that!? ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . . ZRB, since when does Francis or a Mobley need a go-to-guy. Were not losing games because a lack of scoring options. That should be more than obvious by now. Were losing games because we lack interior defense and rebounding. The last thing this team needs is another major scorer. And I dont think Rahim will be a enough of a major rebounder for a long perios of time. Anyways, if its specifically rebounding were after, I hope its a player that has bruiser like capabilites as well. I dont want a player like Reef that gives you a soft scoring punch with minimal rebounding skills. ------------------
Trust me, Rahim's 10 boards a game would be welcome, and when is 10 rebounds a game "soft". And if we do get a bruiser where do we put him? I can't believe people are willing to pass up on a superstar player averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds and plays a position we need help at! ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . . I cannot believe that anyone on this board actually compared Langhi to SAR. Sure, Langhi may have lit up some CBA scrubs in the summer revues, but he hasn't proved to me that he is any better than Matt Bullard right now. All he has shown me is that he is a very nervous rookie on the court that cannot seem to get comfortable, and he is either going to drain or airball the open shot...and he can jump a little bit. But, what about everything else...defense? rebounding? post-game? These are 3 of the Rockets weaknesses, and he brings none of them to the team. We've got enough shooters on our team...2 of our players are specialized shooters, that's all they do. Come on people...Dan's future is coming off the bench, or starting for a very sorry team. No matter what you saw at the revue, he's not showing any of it at the big boy level. Now...on to SAR. I am kind of neutral with getting him...it sounds great, but I also see a downside. First of all, we need a guy that specializes in rebounding and brings a shot blocking presence...he is a scorer that rebounds decent and isn't a great defensive player. Second, he hurts our chances at signing or drafting a low post player...O yea, SAR is not a primary low post player. Whether it be Webber or a draft player, that is what we need and that is #1 on my list. Reef would be nice, and we would have a decent shot at the playoffs...but, I'm not sure if he would lead us back to title contention in the future. Balance is important for winning championships, and with him I'm not sure we would have overall balance. If we get SAR, Webber, or a good draft pick, I will be happy and hope for the best. At this point though, I think I'd rather have Webber or a good center out of the draft than Reef. ------------------ "Steve is good. All Rocketbooster's saying is that Shareef doesn't fit the bill in terms of our most glaring weaknesses-DEFENSE. As far as rebounds... the man's averaging 10 a game. I think he can definately help our rebounding issue. Shareef has lots of game, but a big part of it, his scoring, we don't really need. We already have lots of scorers that are only going to get better with experience. Then again, we could just outscore the opponent. Who cares about defense when you got Shareef, Francis, Mobley, & Mo? ------------------ PrEsident of The Danforth Langhford FAN CLUB... He IS our future All-Star Small Forward
Doug Moe tried the "Out Score Them" approach and it didn't get him a Championship Ring. Mango ------------------ Spring Cleaning!!!
If we waived Dream (he's a distraction, plays like s*** to help Les make up his mind, i.e., he's gonna tank, why should he help us?) and dealt for Reef, we could contend. We'd be a lot better than what he's got now. ------------------
The Rockets' offense is not THAT great. One night, we score 110, the next, 84. Shareef would add some offensive diversity and stability, I think. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Then again, compared to the Griz, almost EVERYBODY is a contender ------------------ Moochie Norris Hair Club for Men - I'm not only the president, I'm also a client
Rebounding is the key here. When we have a forward that consistently gets 10 rebounds, it starts the fast break, which is what we need. I am tired of seeing our guards as the rebounding leaders every night. Shareef's points are nice, but his rebounding ability are what the Rockets need. No more cramming the paint full of guards. ------------------ Kenny Thomas had a foul called on him in the Western Conference Finals.
If rebounding is all we need from him, then why would we trade for his salary and abilities if we are only going to use his rebounding? We could just sign or draft a player that is a big rebounder for a lot cheaper and then have money leftover for more guys that we could fill weaknesses with. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Reef here as much as the next guy, but I'm not sure he is exactly what we need. ------------------ "Steve is good. Steve is real good." -- Cleveland's rookie point guard Andre Miller on Rocket rookie point Steve Francis
Some new stuff 02/03-SHAREEF AND THE GRIZZLIES PROBLEM- I think at this point we all understand Shareef Abdur Rahim is not likely going to be a Grizzlies much longer. I think the story has been said, I think the reasons are pretty clear. For the Grizz they made a run with Reef and he's no happier with them, than they are with him. Sure, they talk highly of him they have to keep his value up. Yes, he is producing on the floor, because he is a great player. But when it comes time to be The Man and really take charge of this team, Reef runs from that almost as fast as Mike Bibby. So the rumors have persisted about Shareef to Atlanta, or Shareef to Washington, Chicago, LA, Philadelphia, Miami and about 20 other teams. But the truth is this (as it was explained to me) At the deadline there are 2 types of teams- The teams going somewhere, who need 1 more piece and Teams going nowhere looking for a new place to start. Vancouver happens to be one of those second teams, and frankly why would they want to trade one of their brightest spots, for someone elses deadspots? Caproom? Free agents don't come to Vancouver, check the history of the team. The way free agents run from Vancouver, you'd think it was on fire. League sources contend that the best deal Vancouver could hope to pull, will not improve them this year.- so why make a deal now? There's no reason to. However, if they wait until the summer, when teams are willing to totally restructure around Shareef, they can command more, either in sign and trades, drafted players, or veterans under contract, something they have been unable to land themselves. How good would Vancouver get if they landed Dale Davis and Bonzi Wells from Portland? Portland would NOT make that deal now, but if they fail to reach a Finals this year during the summer you can bet they'd make it. The truth is despite what Reef's agent may want (and he's the only one really talking exit for Reef) the Grizzlies are best suited to wait this one out, unless the Lakers really want to trade Kobe, or the Sixers really want to trade Allen Iverson- but you and I both know that's not going to happen. It doesn't need to happen. Reef's not untouchable, its just no one who has anything would be silly enough to trade it now. http://www.bskball.com/Rumors.htm ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. the dude from bskball.com never thinks anything will happen. i remember one time in summer i emailed him asking if we had a shot at maurice taylor he said it wasnt likely and he would probably end up in seattle or toronto. ------------------ http://www.democrats.com [This message has been edited by dc rock (edited February 03, 2001).]
From NBATALK.com... http://www.suntimes.com/output/bulls/bull031.html Interesting, the Grizzlies, Bulls, and Heat all mentioned in the same article. Is it possible this is the sort of trade Rudy is trying to make? This would make sense why we haven't heard anything for a while. ------------------ http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/houstonrockets2000 [This message has been edited by DaneB (edited February 03, 2001).] [This message has been edited by DaneB (edited February 03, 2001).] [This message has been edited by DaneB (edited February 03, 2001).]
Interesting, too, that Jamal Crawford and Reef have the same agent. I saw the Grizzlies-Bulls game on TV tonight. Some observations: Fizer schooled Swift. Fizer had his best game as a pro. I wonder if that will come back to haunt him: showing off for the Grizzlies. Hell, if he played like that regularly, we should get him. (But this was just one game.) Swift looks like a giant bust and I hope we're not trying to deal for him. He could actually be good one day, but I don't know. He's too light for the 4 and can't shoot well enough for the 3. He was absolutely punked out there. Shareef Abdur-Rahim. He looked frustrated sometimes, a little edgy and angry, and exchanged "barks" with his coach. He isn't extremely quick, but that could be deceptive; he looks like he's lumbering but he still gets to the rim and to the foul line. We could use his rebounding. He had no problem with that. Jamal Crawford. Ugh. He and Swift have a ways to go. The Grizzlies' owner held a press conference saying his team is in dire straits and will meet with NBA reps over All-Star weekend to discuss "options, getting help," blah blah (i.e., "I wanna move this team, I'm losing big-time $$$, I need your blessing.") I hope dire straits lands us Reef. Webber would be better, but Reef (w/o Reeves) would really help us out. He's a keeper. ------------------
Swift will be a good player, but he came out way too early. Shouldve stayed in at least another year. He wouldn't help us much now, but give him a couple of years and he will be a presence I think. ------------------ "Steve is good. Steve is real good." -- Cleveland's rookie point guard Andre Miller on Rocket rookie point Steve Francis
Someone please justify to me why we don't need a stellar small forward who is versatile and can score in bunches? Since when can an NBA team NOT use another scorer? I just cannot get with that philosophy. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
