should've traded breh after the first sl game along with green. could've gotten someone like sga back.
C'mon, dude. Allow the fans to enjoy this once a year preseason deluded euphoria before reality hits.
Summer league can't really tell you that a player playing really well is likely to succeed in the NBA. But it can tell you that a player playing poorly is unlikely to succeed in the NBA. Sheppard is showing he's probably not a bust. Anything beyond that is still TBD.
Reed has had 2, maybe 3 assisted shot attempts in the three SL games so far? It’s been a good opportunity to see him challenged as a pure on ball self-creator, and he's surprised me with his ability to get off his middy - but this will not resemble his NBA shot diet. The actualized version of Reed would be taking a mix of PnR pull-up 3's, middies, and floaters (with an experienced PnR partner setting real screens), a few movement 3's, lots of catch and shoot, relocation, and transition 3's, and doing some Trae/Brunson-esque foul baiting to get to the line. Probably close to zero self-created shots without a real screen unless it's an advantage switch situation.
What's the point resting him? Not going to play big minutes at least early this year. We have plenty of depth. I say let him work on his PG skills.
Consistency, especially when gassed, is a skill that takes time for young players to develop. He and Cam deserve a little grace on that front. Also, they are in Vegas with lots of other NBA types, so plenty of opportunities to miss sleep.
Reed's shown he's more than capable of getting his shot off. That's all I needed to see. During the regular season he'll be on the court with players like Sengun, Jalen Green, Amen, FVV(?), etc. He'll get plenty of open shots and will hit a lot of them. It's just summer league, but he's working much harder in games now than he would during the regular season. The only reason he semi-struggled last night was because he played 3 games in 5 days. He won't have to exert as much energy with the regular squad and teams can't focus on shutting Reed down when they have to deal with Sengun, Jalen, Amen, Tari, Cam, Jabari, etc. The fact he's much more than just a shooter is an added bonus, but for year 1 the Rockets probably just need him to play a role similar to Eric Gordon when he played alongside Harden. Reed's a much better passer though. I think he'll be great from day 1 if he gets the playing time.
