Thanks for sharing @NewAge . It's interesting, I sorted by BPM (metric that estimates a player's value above the league avg per 100 possessions) and Reed was youngest in top 10 (Wemby was 2nd at 22 and #9). It's basically saying our young PG is contributing at a high rate and was certainly worthy of #3 pick even in a good draft. BTW, I know this isn't the be all metric, but for the Castle fans he's setting at #75 (.8 rate). Alpi is #14, Durant #61 and Amen at #62.
Hopefully more people now see what so many of us saw watching him in college.... that he really is similar to a Steph Curry/CP3 hybrid.
Agree with this. He's of course improved but he's pretty clearly a guy that has needed to get a rhythm and some confidence. The role last year of "play two 5 minute stretches, stand in the corner to shoot 1 or 2 threes, and don't screw anything up" was not a role he was suited for then, though he actually can function in that role this year too. In the spot duty last year you could see in very, very short bursts of what may have been an overall lackluster performances that he's a guy who just knows how to play and has some unique gifts. But the overall consensus takeaway from the game would be "Reed went 0 for 3 from 3, this guy stinks right now." It was different the few instance where the shackles really came off. Last year against OKC, which might have been the best performance by a rookie in a game last year, he looked like the guy we're seeing now. If he'd been on a team like the Wizards last year getting 25-30 minutes every night and room to play through a lot of mistakes he'd probably have been competing with Castle for ROY.
I've been an OG Reed pumper but I honestly don't see that much Steph. Steph is one of a kind. Reed has a lot of Price with a little CP3 (not the POA D though) and a little Nash IMO. He's the most athletic of that group but of course has a looong way to go to be close to the level of those guys.
I guess I see Steph in his long range game, willing to bomb away from anywhere, but honestly, if his floor is Price with some CP3/Nash, you are talking about an amazing player.
Reed clearly is a student of the game, he’s playing the right way defensively and this is also keeping him on the floor. Sure he lost Curry a couple of times and was out rebounded once or twice during the game. But in the 4th qtr, it was very apparent that Reed made the Warriors reset what they were doing on offense more than a couple times. He was in their passing lanes, preventing drives, and despite being just 6’2 was in there battling Post, their 7’0 center. For that short period of time he was defensively creating havoc and it was during a critical point in the game. It was very Chris Paul like and not something one could imagine from someone who hasn’t played a full season or has had experience in crunch time.
The eyeball test says he makes happen when he’s in the game. Even when the box score says different. And he’s making less mistakes. Needs to brush up on his national postgame interview skills though. #deerinheadlights
If someone were to tell me that Reed would be one of our most valuable players and consistent scorers this year but he would be at the bottom of our team in free throw % (a team with Capela and Adams on it) I'd say this was a joke.
