if this board is a 94% no from two summer league games with literally no one else on his team that is remotely an NBA player and being completely game planned against … double teamed half the time and putting up numbers that are still better than the statline the rookie of the year did last year in the NBA … then that is more of a board IQ thing lol
they gave jalen year after year to be with that guy until he crapped the bed in the playoffs; reed they think is the best offensive guy on the roster. He's not going anywhere
Well - I am sure they want to see the player that is awesome on the practice court also be awesome on the court come game time. I don't have a problem with what Stone said - shows confidence in Sheppard, but also shows what the expectations are. He will be surrounded by good players - he is capable of meeting the expectations.
Have they announced if he's playing game 3? Or anything indicating that he's done for the rest of summer league?
Lmao, he is already the best shooter with the best shooting form except for Durant who hasn't played a game yet. The Rockets have no pure playmaker, of course he is going to stand out, there ain't even that many guards on the roster.......
May I ask who you listened to? The typical podcasts I listen to like Zach Lowe, Hollinger or Sam Veciene haven't talked about summer league yet so I haven't heard any input on his play yet.
He played thru his minor issues, Detroit blew out a SL game, there was no real reason to let him continue in there. I didn't see him limping, Detroit just put a lid on the game.
Franchise player...highly unlikely...but hoping he can become someone like Sam Cassell, Alex Caruso or Derrick White. One thing I like about the young core of the Rockets is they high character guys who are willing to put in the work.
Sam Vecenie is one of the one's I was talking about, it was the Atheltic Saturday Slam & Jam (which i think came out yesterday, 7/13)
Ideally he would play. I don't want to see any Ace Bailey or Dylan Harper (or Jalen Green) finessing from Reed. The competitor in him needs to make up for the shitty game he put up against Detroit.
Honestly, "a lot better than FVV" is likely an all-star. I don't know how good Reed will end up being, but he does have a lot of tools offensively - if he hits 3's at a high level. He can come off of screens very well, he can pull up in traffic from behind the three point line, and he also can finish in the lane because of how crafty he is. What he lacks is a lot of easy buckets because of his size, so he has to make up for that by being really good shooting from the perimeter. Most guys cannot do that, time will tell with Reed as well.
Sorry that's probably my wording, i meant specifically as a shooter. If college wasn't a fluke i'd be expecting Reed closer to the Korver/Redick tier of shooters. I wouldn't say that guaranteed all stars, but it is better than fvv.
Oh ok. I only subscribe to his Game Theory podcast so missed it. I find Athletic pods to be grating so I'll just wait for his own pod to release to hear his thoughts.
Here's the clip @SamFisher was talking about from Vecenie I think: Around the 19:48 mark if the embed didn't get the timestamp right. It does sound like Sam *might* have only watched the 2nd half of G1, but yeah he came away super impressed by Reed. I'm sure his review of G2 wouldn't be as glowing. Anyway I generally had the same opinion as Vecenie on G1, and I was disappointed in Reed with his G2 performance even if a lot of things didn't go his way. Regardless, I don't really put *that* much stock into these SL games, especially since I do think Reed struggles with these kind of chaotic environments (which is typically not how NBA basketball is played). It would be one thing if he was a rookie, but we do have a ton of NBA footage to look at as well. We don't have to wonder how, based on this SL stuff, Reed will be able to create offense against NBA top level defenders like Alex Caruso, Cason Wallace, and SGA...because we already saw that: It was just one game (though most of his starts were decent), but I'd much rather have that good game vs a good SL game (or even 5 good SL games). Now I don't know if he can consistently replicate that (I'd say he can't right now), but I don't really understand some of the folks who can't see the vision with his high end skillset. For comparison's sake, Jalen did similar things (well in vastly different ways with his skillset), and unfortunately I don't think he could reliably replicate those performances either. But it was pretty clear what the vision was with Jalen (same as Reed). Both players will succeed or fail based on how reliable they can get at producing these high end results. And in both cases, I'm not sure SL games (good or bad) will really tell us that much. Honestly most of my focus with Reed in this SL hasn't been with his offense but rather his defense. I do like the increased physicality (which Sam pointed out as well). I feel like he did do more of that matador "I'll steal the ball from behind" defense in G2 as he got frustrated/tired, but I do sense overall improvement in this area. His hands are great (seems comparable to Caruso for example), but his actual POA/man defense last year was very...weak. Afraid of contact (similar to his offense actually). This is what kept him off the floor in the regular season, and I think his offense will be fine as long as he can take care of things defensively.
