I'm glad Ime gave Reed, Cam and Dante some run tonight, but it does make you wonder if Reed had gotten more time with FVV sidelined what he could have done. As many have said, he needed some consistent minutes to see what he could do.
He showed great stocks rate + deflections rate tonight, his college production on defense was not a fluke.
What's really encouraging is that he was swishing on mid-range shots with defenders right on him. Coming into this game he has shot 17% on 3-10ft range and 26% in the 10-16ft range. That's the range that in the SL he showed he can hit, and what he showed last night. This has to be his bread and butter if he's to be successful. And tonight at least he is showing a hint of that potential.
I don't know why people think he's an undersized shooting guard. He clearly showed PG skills and instincts.
Reed finds those 3 point shooters fast it's intentional. Amen doesn't look for those shooters until he is forced to do it
I was too harsh on Reed questioning his mental fortitude. Completely different demeanour tonight because the 20 year-old kid wasn’t worried about getting benched after making a single mistake like every other night. Got to focus on the game instead and looked like SL/G-League Reed. Ime is good at some things but horrible at others.
Reed Sheppard reminds me of Yao Ming and Steve Nash when they first entered the league. The talent is obvious- but worries too much and over thinks it. Ming and Nash got over that and became great. Hopefully Sheppard gets more comfortable and his shot starts falling. He is capable of bringing a very good offensive and defensive player and point guard- which the Rockets will need. The flashes are nice, but he needs to start getting a little more consistent.
yea. This guy is a point guard and we need to give him the ball more. Seems like Ime dropped by the ball July not playing him as much as possible when FVV was out. We were losing most games anyway
The Rockets drafted him because they needed shooting. He just wasn't confident in his shot. In this game, he attempted shots he hasn't all season, even running jumpers.
Reed has had two 20-minute + games in his past 9 games. In those 2 games, he has averaged 20.5ppg 4.5rpg 1.5bpg 2spg
Thats his role in college. Dillingham was the creator he was an off ball scorer. It would be great if he can develop playmaking so we have replacement for FVV.
the hard dribble taking on every defender they threw at him bursting into the paint that is what sets up the jumper coming off the curl or the spot up where he can play off the spot up..........with......... the.......dribble it is absolutely stupid to run the kid from baseline to baseline spotting up he is top 3 offensive creator on the whole roster because he takes care of the basketball very well makes good decisions and can shoot off the dribble defensively he's another turnover creator gotta make the pieces fit together if you don't have a set offense with plays then you gotta stick him out there give him the riock and tell everybody else to play off him quickly we have burned 75% of his rookie season jamming him into the wrong role the pieces need to fit together gotta figure it out
Maybe he played one in College and exchanged duties with a guy named Dillingham. Stop worrying about people when the guy's track record said this.....this does not mean you cannot turn him into a Backup PG.
Criminal that Reed hasn’t had consistent minutes all season. This should still be considered a developmental year. Reed and Cam need those minutes not only to develop but also showcase for potential trades. Playing Holliday over Reed is beyond stupid.
Good point, but to me it has been a question of his size. Obviously the guy can ball, it's just the question of at what level is he potentially capped off on. I'll try to be vague here on who I'm talking about, but I grew up with someone who lived down the street that I played with every day and was always the best player skill wise in our group of friends growing up. However even at the Jr. High, and early high school years, the size was an issue that capped his effectiveness. He was very very short. He was still good in High School, but there were others on our high school team that were considered better players, and prospects for college. However he had a crazy late growth spurt, and ended up taking a back door to the NBA, and had a very long career. We knew this guy was a baller, but it's the question of size in basketball often. Simply put he was good, but not effective when he was smaller than everyone else. People don't like that, and people love to talk about the combine measurements, etc... but to me as someone who played all my life, I look at him size wise in the NBA, and its a concern for me. So I think Reed looked awesome last night. I know the dude can play. However I need to see him against other looks defensively more consistently to really understand if he is too small or not to be effective in the NBA consistently. I'd like to see how he looks tonight again as a starter, and I do look for him to have an important offseason, and training camp going into next season where maybe he can train to be even more effective, or gain that next level of skill that made Nash, CP3, and Stockton as effective as they were a their size. I'm not a "Reed Hater"... I'm just a guy who played ball my entire life, and I'm sorry but his size concerns me as a top 3 prospect that you want to invest in as your PG of the future. Obviously the dude can ball, but does he have the size, or skill to make it in the NBA as a star regardless is a question.
