The orgy of bashing Reed on this forum reminds me of the orgy of bashing Amen last year. I'm not saying he's gonna be as good as Amen but a couple of you are extremists, have issues and need to screw your heads on. Your passion and relentlessness in bashing Reed is over the top. It's unfortunate we can no longer view post counts within threads because it would be very revealing. This isn't gonna be Reed's year because the Rockets seem to be far ahead of schedule and have prioritized winning now above everything. Plus, there are 6 other youngsters further along than Reed that are more important for the Rockets to evaluate because Reed is a rookie. To the Reed lovers, bashing Udoka because he doesn't give all of Holiday's minutes to Reed is silly because Holiday is far ahead of him now. In small doses, Holiday does his job well most of the time. To the Reed extreme haters (not the doubters, not the ones who like to be sarcastic), maybe chill some of your venomous passion against him and find something else in life to get your jollies.
Amen has never been as bad as Sheppard stop coping. When was the last time 3 pts for Amen is seen as a good game? Well for Sheppard thats a good game cuz his average is 2.8. The fact that you would even lump the two shows how much of a bias you have for Sheppard, thats why you are out here on full court defense. Why are you even trying to make the Rox trying to win as an excuse? Even during the losing years did Jalen and Sengun ever shoot 41% TS? If Sheppard was a good player he'd get minutes. He isnt, and thats why it not his year not because the Rox are prioritizing winning. Even if Udoka gives him 20 mins a night he'd still be bad, he needs a lot more time and training not just minutes on the court. Its not Reeds year because he sucks at the NBA level. Anyone who makes all sorts of excuses blaming the Rockets organization is just a biased Reedster. End of story. This doesnt mean he will never be good, but to blame external factors for Reeds struggles just shows how much of a bias you have for him.
Agree with some of that, except 2 things. 1) That Holiday is is far ahead of him 2) that this won't be Reed's year because the team has prioritized winning. Holiday isn't far ahead of him overall. In fact, by every defensive metric Reed is a better defender. Holiday has shot the ball quite a bit better than him though. Overall Holiday has been a bit better (not much). Based on that and comments Udoka has made i expect Reed to get another chance maybe around all star break.
He is quick. He isn't top 10% in the league like Jalen Green or SGA... but he is still quick, especially turning the corner.
People writing off the guy that came out of college as a freshman that didn’t even start are super crazy. if we had zero young players, Reid would be playing 25 minutes a night and probably scoring quite a bit. I imagine his percentages would not be great. I think by this time next year, he’s a pretty solid part of a winning rotation.
Young point guards/combo guards usually take awhile. Reed has been unusually bad, but again, in very limited minutes. I don't think I'd want to have him as the de facto backup point guard next season, and certainly not in the playoffs this year (so I hope they make a trade because Aaron Holiday is a 6-nothing shooting guard and Amen isn't quite ready to run an offense). But certainly if he shows progress next season, maybe the year after that is when he starts earning real rotation minutes. If not, well, you can't win 'em all, sometimes you draft a bust.
I really feel like there is a 0% chance that Shepherd is a bust. Maybe he just ends up a sixth man a back up point Guard off the bench that hits 40% from three. But there’s a lot of skill there and there’s a lot of ability defensively, considering his physical package. All those things will be enhanced as he actually gets into an NBA strength program and gets a couple years under his belt
Keep faith in Reed. We are only half way through his rookie year and he hasnt played much nba basketball. He’s going to be very good; nothing has changed.
I'd bet that a ton of teams have called inquiring about Reed for their 3 and D role players and Stone probably hitting "Block" and "Report As Spam".
Trust me, always bet on character and work ethic as long as the minimum talent level is there. Reed will be a starting NBA PG by his 3rd or 4th season. He's just much rawer than we thought. Add 1 or 2 years to your timeline and we have exactly the player we want.
Being glued to the bench isn't ideal. He needs to play and he's not good enough to do it for the Rockets right now. It's pretty simple. I still don't understand what they are doing with him. I guess they think his just being around and practicing with the varsity is enough. Maybe it is but I sure wish he would go back down again.
He's too good for the G League but isn't good enough to play for the 4th best team in the league. Kind of in no man's land right now. I think Ime and Co probably want him around the main team to learn and identify schemes, players, film room, habits, etc. Spurs probably still pissed they ended up one pick short of drafting him. He'd get all the reps there. Now they're stuck with fat unathletic annoying Amen Thompson and short unathletic Amen Thompson and trying to make them work together. Those two together have been a disaster so far for them.
They sure could have used another shooter to shoot the Cavs out of that zone last night. That zone is a preview of the playoffs btw.
Only corner Reed has turned is off Polk St when he turners the corner to go home. I wanted Kel'el Ware!! He would have paired well with Alpi, same way he is pairing with Bam in Miami. He's 7ft, can shoot the 3pt, block shots and he can post up.
