We are trying to win games man. Like if Udoka played Sheppard 5 more mins we would have lost the game. I understand wanting to develop Sheppard since we spent a 3rd pick on him and he is the heir to FVV but at the same time we also need to win games. Winning games should be the priority Sheppard should do some individual skills training and imo be sent to the GLeague so he can get his reps and build confidence. It is mostly a confidence issue he is playing like a 6'1 Ben Simmons always looking to pass instead of taking the shot. If he fixes that I think most complaints will stop whether he hits his shots or not.
He needs G League minutes so he can get comfortable and be more aggressive. Right now he's playing timid. He also needs to share minutes with someone who can get him quality shots like Sengun. Him and Jalen at the same time is a disaster. A low efficient guard with a passive point guard
I thought it was pure comedy when he was being considered one of the top consensus ROTY candidates, especially with a deep(ish) roster.
Reed is playing at a defensive grade level D. He has quick hands and gets deflections once in a while, but overall, he’s a huge negative because of his defense and, so far, his inability to compensate for that in other areas (both his passing and shooting have been passive and weak). If IME had played him more minutes, the Rockets likely would have lost more games. IME does see something in Reed. The only two players IME is allowing to "develop" this season at the expense of the team's winning are Reed and Adams. Both Holiday and Landale are contributing more to winning than Reed and Adams, but clearly, IME sees a higher ceiling in Reed and Adams. Adams makes sense - he's hoping to see the old Adams who was dominant on defense, which would add huge value to the team when Sengun is struggling or in foul trouble. Imagine a bench unit with a dominate defensive C along with the terror twins. Reed is in a similar situation - this team has not done well when FVV sits, and IME overloaded him with minutes last year and is starting to do the same this year. Reed (and Adams) will get more minutes when they produce more. Until then, spotty minutes are already charity.
I'm not going to mention names. Should I mention names? A few posters, 2 months into the season last year, were talking like Amen was Kramer in a Karate class. The only reason the twins succeeded in Overtime Elite league was because they were going up against 16 year olds.
Tonight I think Reed should channel his inner "Whitmore". Screw everybody else, just get yours. Shoot, shoot and shoot some more.
I think Reed has been pretty OK on defense. Maybe he gets beat a little bit, but the amount of plays that he has made with his hands has been way above average….savant like. I’d like us to make more of an effort to design plays for him to get off shots, and I would like him to be more aggressive overall. I see the value in staying with the first team, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a G league stretch either.
This brother stinks! Send him to the G League. Get his feet wet, get playing time, get some confidence.
It’s simple. 1. G-League 2. 35 minutes & 30 shots a game 3. ??? 4. Profit Dude is playing like a bigger mental midget than Jeremy Lin. Only experience and a lot of shots can fix it, and the G-League don’t lack for big bodies, athletes and vets for him to compete against.
I'm trying to figure out what in the G-League will "force" him to put up more shots if he's not doing it in the NBA?
Interesting messaging from Udoka... encouraging Reed to shoot more... but if he ever misses he's benched immediately for the rest of the game.
Holiday needs Reed's minutes right now if you're really trying to win games. Reed just isn't bringing enough. Fair is fair. I'm worried the rest of the team will resent it if they keep throwing him out there with not much to show for it.
