I made a mistake, looked at his stats on nba.com and added the 4/5 from tonight, but it was already updated with tonight's game. Like @Easy said, he's at 37 % now.
3 blocks and 4 threes... What an incredibly talented player. Let Udoka cook. Going to take some time, but Reed is a keeper. PERFECT player to balance out Amen Thompson's lack of a jumper. One day Reed will be taking 10+ threes a game.
I noticed he took some deeper 3's this game. He doesn't need to be like Ryno was and only shoot outside of 27+ feet. But if Reed can mix in some Steph Curry level distance three's here and there, that should help get his volume up.
Shooting really well from 3. Improving defensively, not gambling as much. 2.4 to 1 asst/to ratio. Couldn't possibly be going better. This is what successful development looks like after 14 games on a playoff-bound team. He'll get better each month. By mid season, he's going to be a super sub. By the final quarter of the season, Reed and Amen will make us question whether to retain FVV or not in the summer. Couldn't be happier.
Reed just need more confidence and experience. Those were some Dame range 3s he splashed when he shot without hesitation. I still want him to do a stint in the G just to jack shots. If Reed was on a **** team like Hawks/Wiz/Spurs with nothing to play for he’d likely have gotten the passiveness out of his system already.
So small sample sizes matter only when it goes against your narrative? You certainly didn’t seem to worry about it when complaining about his %. The season is the season - he’s near 40%. You, on the other hand, remain somewhere below the Mendoza line.
I wouldn’t say embarrassing ourselves.. people are simply looking for improvement. He’s a 20 year old rookie, 14 games into his professional career. He is clearly an elite shooter. His 3 is silky smooth, and already looks better than anyone on our roster. He needs time to develop, but people are simply saying that we are seeing improvement. He’s going to be inconsistent right now - he’s a rookie with inconsistent minutes. 4/5 from 3 with 3 blocks with a couple boards and an assist is heading in the right direction. He’s also making smart decisions with the ball in his hands. That’s all. Nobody posted oh wow, look it’s Steph after yesterday’s game. Give the kid some time.
He needs to be taking deeper 3s cause he's having trouble getting separation. That's one of the things very noticeable from his college/summer league days to NBA. He's much less able to shake off defenders, even last night when the Bulls clearly had no intention to play any defense.
While I do agree it would be very beneficial if he tried to take a few more deeper threes, I think his teammates are a big reason he's having trouble getting separation. Opposing teams have been able to play him very aggressively as they can park a body down low and leave a non-shooter open (i.e., he doesn't get many chances to punish teams for playing him aggressively).
Two deeep threes. Those should count as 1.5 shots, increasing his 3PT% to 40%. His shooting volume is too low to really draw any solid conclusions. Udoka said he needs to be more aggressive and hunt for his shots, which tells me he's a much better shooter than what we've seen so far.
