Reed actually attempts to play mistake-free basketball and typically makes the right decisions as a pass-first PG. Although he wasn't shooting well to start the season, dealing with the height and explosiveness of NBA athletes, many rookies struggle at first. But I need him to stay aggressive and develop a killer instinct to take over games. Again the G league would let him spread his wings as a team focal point on offense and skill development.
I'll reserve judgement until the 2nd half of the season but some aggression from Reed would be really nice to see.
Dude managed to play mistake-free basketball tonight but mistake-free basketball is not always winning basketball.
I do like how Reed looks out there as a point guard. He is making the right plays - 4 assists and he could’ve had a few more. But damn, he needs a little of that Cam mentality. Not too much, just a little. Shoot the rock, rookie!
If Reed Sheppard wants respect from Teammates destroy them in Practice and talk back at them. Ime Udoka doesn't help his situation, forcing him to play SG exclusively which is ridiculous to watch. The Rockets drafted him to play PG not SG only. Let him handle the ball and call out plays.
Reed is playing like a true point but he needs to spam the middy whenever he is in if he doesn’t want to shoot the 3
It's excruciating how passive he is. There was a play in garbage time where he caught the ball off of a kickout and passed up a wide open 3 - only to drive and kick it out to Landale for 3. He does that all the time. People can say he's being a pure PG but that's just poor decision making. Part of being a good PG at this level is understanding your teammates and knowing when it's the right time to call your own number. It would be a complete misuse of talent if he was orchestrating up top while lesser shooters like Amen or Jalen are wating on the wings. He has to be the one to take the shots when he gets them. That's why he was the #3 pick.
I’m moderately annoyed at his persistent unwillingness to shoot. As if he’s very much aware of himself and afraid to mess it up. We have too many dudes that have confidence issue I hope he proves me wrong.
I can understand he plays conservatively when he’s in the game with the main guys. But during garbage time(last game and this one), shake loose. Take 10 shots or something. Act like you are the 3rd pick!
He’s just too hesitant out there. Doesn’t mean that’s what he will be but he was drafted partially to be a shooter.
Still extremely early, but he certainly needs to get out of his own head. He won't amount to much in the league as a reluctant shooter. He needs let it fly anytime he has daylight, can't be scared to miss.
LoL I mean come on guys that's the guy we drafted. He was always going to be a "good kid" and play unselfish. Don't worry he'll grow out of it. I'd rather have drafted a too-unselfish player than a too-selfish one. Much easier to teach.
Didn't watch garbage time this game. But last game when he was in with the end of the bench guys - it was criminal plays weren't deliberately run for him. Jeff Green immediately coming in and taking two shots. Sorry coaching staff, that's really really pathetic.
Case in point steady freddy. We need a good playmaker to take our team to the next level or we gonna lose.
