I definitely see why Reed was a backup on a college team. Stats were easier to come by there than in the NBA
He just needs to focus on cleaning up his mechanics and speeding up his release so he gets comfortable shooting at the NBA level. Right now he is overwhelmed with the size and speed of NBA competition. Even if he is open he is hesitant to take the shot cuz he is afraid of getting blocked. He needs to improve where he is comfortable at shooting at the NBA level like he did back in college and everything will open up for him.
he has the Jabari disease he hasn’t looked impressive at all he has yet to take a single free throw in 85 minutes of game time…he can’t get to the rim at least most of this draft class has looked like sh*t…Zach Risacher has played abysmally, as has Alex Sarr
I commend all of you that are being negative here like @coachbadlee etc. The Rockets are winning more and more. The young guys are all generally improving across the board. Still need something to harp on though. So lets lay into the rookie that is barely getting playing time. Tons of people thought he wouldnt play until mid season. Regardless I salute you and your interesting fandom.
oh no a player in one of the weakest draft classes in the last decade isn't doing amazing with 10 minutes a night off the bench in a weird role! think of Reed more as a 15th overall draft pick than the a top 5 and you will feel much better.
Trades almost never work out. Doing nothing hardly ever works out either. Teams that weren't contenders that choose (or other team choose not to trade with them) not to make consolidation trades work out even less. NBA champs typically draft a Top 5 NBA player, make a consolidiation trade, and/or have a Top 5 NBA player choose them.
I agree. He's also needing to get up to speed in an offense that's probably a good deal more complex than anything our rookies had to understand in Ime's first season with the team. One of these days, hopefully this season, he's going to see all the green computer code and go all Neo/Matrix/bloodninja on the other team. Start hitting three's from all over the court and flying around in a wizard hat and black leather trenchcoat. Mark my words, "he's the ONE."
You can see he is getting more comfortable. He’s protecting the ball well, plus he’s getting good shots when takes them. He looks good on defense too. For a rookie, the barometer is a bit different. The first year is about getting up to the NBA speed and physicality. Managing his conditioning to still get his shot off with his normal flow. On account of his conditioning, I think his shot is a bit off, but he has a nice looking release, so it’s a matter of time before they start falling in at a + 42% rate.
I'm going to say that Reed hasn't been great or even okay so far. If he follows the Jabari disease, he'll be a 40%+ shooter after Friday. I think his game will work if he's making 40% of his threes.
His comp is Tre Young. Curry was almost 15 years ago and has had a generational career using a full college career as a pedastal. His comp is Tre Young. He hasn't lived up to that. He can definitely be better than Tre as a pure shooter and tiers better defensively. So I expect and hope that he does become much better than Tre overall. But you don't have to pretend like the only reason people are criticizing him is b/c he's not Curry. 100% Agree and a bit surprised that this doesn't go w/out saying. The 2 guys we think might be cornerstones are below avg 3p shooters for their career as are players viewed as key long-term cogs like Amen and Tari. We need Reed's shooting. Hyperbole like this is not constructive IMO. Avdija and Pool were both < 18 ppg on the Wizards last year. And Reed isn't anywhere near the NBA scorer - yet - that Kyle Kuzma is who put up 22 ppm on awful efficiency. His shooting percentages render any argument of this nature silly until they at least stabilize to some baseline. Helpful. Yeah, definitely helpful. Helpful Trifecta! While you may think this highlights the absurdity of the other side the counter troll, after Reed hits a shot, would be somethin akin to "LAWD ALL MIGHTY, Mustache Jesus you are the GOAT, trade away everyone for someone that can give this guy the ball and gtf out of the way!" Yeah...it's just way more dumb than it is constructive in any way - right? Right. But I mean I get it..it's the internet do logic through extremism is default but whatever. Y'all are better than this.
Steve Nash averaged 3 points and 2 assists in 10 mpg his rookie season. Relax. Reed's playing off ball right now in limited minutes. He's a smart player and will get better each game. His shot is the last thing I'm worried about.
