Right - he's been a disaster from 3 relative to expectations...yet he STILL has the 3rd best 3pt percentage of rotational players on this roster(just behind Jalen and Tari).
Reassuring us that a kid that shot 50% from 3 in college has good form does need to be said? I mean that's participation trophy level isn't it? I want Reed to succeed. But I think it's lowering the bar in an nonconstructive way if we baby his shot making or outcomes. My reaction to his 4Q open misses yesterday was "DAMN kiddo we need you to hit those!" not "Ohhhhh good form Reed! Close! You'll get em next game!" I'm pretty sure he can handle the former w/out being devastated. We should hold him to that. I'm sure Ime is.
Reed needs time for the game to slow down. He's a Rookie who probably would have never been drafted 3 but he still has good potential and I love his fit in with the other guys games. I think he'll be good for us. Give him some time guys.
I like Reed and he has been fine, he has a bright future. However, he’ll never be anyone’s franchise player.
Can everyone relax about a rookie who has played 64 minutes of NBA basketball? Jeez. 64 minutes. The guy looks like he's starting to get a little more comfortable out there, but give him a little bit of time. 64 minutes? That's like Fred's playing time in 1 1/2 games. Seriously though, he looks pretty good out there. Yes, a little bit too careful, like he doesn't want to make a mistake, but he will gain confidence. He got 8 shots up yesterday. If he keeps doing that, the shot will drop and everything will become better for him. He has to find his confidence. He's trying to fit into this system and he's looking good out there, making the right basketball play. Remember that typically a top 3 pick is going to a bad team, and that player tends to get a lot of minutes. We lucked out with the Nets pick, even though we were already at .500. He's not going to be featured for 30 minutes right now, but when he gets more consistent minutes, just watch. Even the great Steph Curry misses 58 out of 100 3s he has taken in his career. We shouldn't be expecting Reed to hit every shot he takes... this isn't archery where we expect the pros to be nearly perfect on every arrow. Or at least, that's what I expect the one time I watch archery, during the Olympics
He looks overwhelmed and he mainly looks like he's just trying hard not to f up. And that is understandable. I've seen nothing to indicate that he will be a bust or that Rockets made the wrong choice in selecting him.
Players are never going to be at their best when only getting 2 random 3 minute shifts per game and Sheppard still hasn't been bad. Give him proper playing time and he'll thrive.
I actually disagree with this sentiment. I don't think he needs to be told to not miss. I think he needs to be told to keep shooting. You don't want shooters playing afraid to miss. If he were playing like Cam, I'd ask him to be more selective. He isn't. He needs to loosen up.
This. Remember, the kid just graduated high school about a year and a half ago. Curry played three years of college ball at Davidson, so let's just let Reed develop. (I'm not saying he will be Curry)
Every time he plays he is doing something positive. I expect a consolidation trade in the next year. He may be slow played until then but I love what I see in spurts.
Funny how some people think he's bad because he has not lived up to Curry's standard. I somewhat blame the hype. But the hate is even more irrational.
Who is telling him not to miss? Or to stop shooting? I'm a fan. I think that entitles me to be a little disappointed that he is missing in a critical moment against a good team last night. That's all. Were you happy at those misses? When he got back in to a few defensive plays after originally letting the ball handler by and he managed excellent contests I was screaming "GREAT CONTEST!" What's my reaction as a fan have to do w/ his role or production? And I 100% agree w/ you, he needs to keep shooting. The only way he makes those in the future is if he keeps shooting them now b/c it will eventually click for a shooter of his pedigree and those reps are priceless. I just don't like participation trophies. Oh well.
folks hating on reed. If you lower your expectations, man is doing fine right now as the 9th man on this team. Them haters must b triggered by folks hyping him up too much.
18 months ago he was playing high school ball. He’s taken 23 shots as a pro. In the old days, players would play three or four years in college, get drafted, and then sit their rookie season. I guess nowadays some people expect instant superstar. Seems a bit unfair.
.... he was instantly given all the playing time in the world and the ability to chuck as many shots as he wanted to no matter how terrible he was... there's no comparison.
I was at the warriors game and the eye test told me why Reed only played 7 minutes in the entire game. I’m sure Amen and Tari help cover for Reed but the Warriors also stopped making every shot in the second half. My greater point is Reed’s defense is the bigger issue than his offense
