Reed Sheppard is not a bust. He will not be ready to really contribute until next season. My whole thing with Shep was I knew he wasn't going to contribute to a win now team right away. The guy I wanted wouldn't have helped either so theres that. As a matter of fact, I'm going to go ahead and say it since I'm already the bad guy but, Reed Sheppard is going to the Valley to chill with the rest of the Gs. Not only is he going but he needs to go. Because he cannot and must not sit on the bench playing garbage minutes.
I didn't like the choice of reed from the beginng. There was a reason why he was cocnsistently coming of the bench. Castle, edey, clingnn, dillingham were all better options. Apart from amen, i never liked our top picks any year. However Reed is still better than i expected. Will be a good bench player by next year
Depends, IMHO is already on Holiday's level if his shot is on........I am probably too low on Holiday. Holiday worked himself into being a 9th man last year....probably just an 11th man this year.
In preseason, Reed and Edey both average 1.0 block per game. Never forget that Edey is 4 months older than Alperen, and 2 years older than Reed. Bullied off his spot. Pick and roll defense is rough. Curious to see how much Memphis goes to him after a couple of weeks, when the scouting report is out.
Funnier still that he's the best playmaker in his class by a mile (which we didn't really anticipate) and has an absolutely lethal mid range (which we didn't really anticipate). He's also the best passer on the team already. If you're complaining about what you've seen from Reed so far you simply have an axe to grind.
Sheppard has looked better than I expected. He may have played himself into the rotation, but mostly because Cam has been so bad. I expected he will be a middle of the pack rookie with limited minutes 10-15 per game if not in the valley. He was the right pick for us, but there are not enough minutes to go around as long as Dillon is on the team. I think Castle will be the better pg long-term, but Sheppard can be a really good combo guard and solid rotation guy. Superstardom is out of his reach.
Surprised and not surprised by the posts in this thread. Reed looks every bit as advertised. His shot will eventually hit. The IQ is is already evident and his size isn’t an issue.
His size has been an issue on defense. He has exceeded my expectations which were probably lower than most on this board. If his 3 pt shot becomes near the top of the league, he will become a very good player. He does have great bbiq. His passing is good, not great. Very safe with the ball like FVV. If his shooting becomes Curry like he will be an all-star, if not he will become a very good role player.
He will be a very good role player. I never saw star but we already have the star potentials in the squad already. We needed a stabilizer (Jabari failing this role). If he can become a role layer like TJ McConnell or Cassell for us, I love this pick. Eve lottery pick doesn’t have to be a all star to be successful
Certainly that's been the narrative since before he was drafted... but the metrics and eye test don't support the narrative. He's been one of the best Rockets defensively in the preseason.
Yeah man, Knecht was balling He was on my board as well. I think Reed will be fine and just needs to develop over time, but at the same time to be even-handed we don't need to knock the talent of these other players to build him up. We'll see what happens, I think letting him develop in the G League wouldn't hurt as well as the other rookies did in the past. If he dominates pull him back up.
