I think the intensity of the workout schedule, adjusting to a pro lifestyle, etc. is holding back his shooting for the moment. What's great to see is that his overall PG play has been solid.
The good news is that his games reminds me of Mark Price more than anyone. It was also the case that PG used to be like QB in football. They had much more responsibility and were brought along slower. Now it's a little more position-less and they are thrown into the deep end quicker. I feel like Reed will be given big minutes by year two.
I'd throw in Chauncey Billups in that former group, partially to break up the white point guard parade (I know Kidd is mixed but he passes when bald), and partially to show some higher expectations while also being a dude who didn't break out until later. The best PG of the 2000s, in my opinion.
If he continues to improve, I could see him being the primary backup or both guard positions. That could get him to about 25mins.
Absolutely. The more I look at our depth chart, once Eason is healthy, Whitmore may be the odd man out.
Yeah, and I think that's kind of a shame, because he needs time on the court to improve. It's all on-court decision making with him. Being g-league LeBron or sitting on the bench won't help with that.
If they would just trade Dillon, Cam and Tari could compete for more backup meetings. He is holding back the development of Amen, Cam, and Tari and that is a shame. If Amen doesn’t get close to 30 mins a game, it is a complete failure by Ime and Stone.
Reed looks great so far. He’s in an ideal spot to play backup PG minutes and learn under FVV. Next year he should be ready to takeover the starting job. Reed Green Amen Bari Sengun Give this group a few more years with Cam and Tari off the bench. By the time they are all in their primes 25-28, they will be a force.
If Giannis or Booker become available they won’t have the patience for this. I foresee FVV, Reed, Amen, Jabari, Giannis and then in two years, Amen, Sheppard, FA or trade wing, Jabari, Giannis.
I think odds of FVV being signed on a declining deal using early Bird rights is the way Stone is probably currently leaning. If Booker FVV/Reed Reed/FVV Booker Amen Sengun So much BBIQ with maybe enough shooting to make Amen/Sengun work. If Giannis FVV/Reed Reed/FVV Amen/Jabari/Other Giannis Sengun I don't think the Rockets would run Amen/Giannis/Sengun without Amen or Sengun making a big leap in shooting. This assumes Reed is as good as I think he will be. There is still a chance he's not able to get everything to click. It may take time for Reed to start in the Booker scenario. I'd assume the FVV/Booker/Amen/Jabari/Sengun would be used until Reed forces his way to starting.
Reed is selling me on his pg skills. His handle is rather tight. He has pace with his handle and his middy jump shot is butter. Makes the correct passing read most of the time also. All the traits you need for a starting NBA pg. Definitely see a more athletic version of FVV in this kid and I was one of the ones who thought he would be more of a off guard entering the league.
A more athletic, longer and better shooting version of FVV is what I'm starting to see also. Another similarity to Fred is Reed's hands are his greatest asset on defense. He already understands how to move without the ball and keep the ball moving. Eventually, he'll grow into the role of playing QB on offense.
I know this has become a bit on here, but I believe Reed could be great. At least the best player from his draft and an all-star.
