Well see. I'm skeptical of all this ROY talk. I don't see production. remotely like that on the way initially. (where's he getting those minutes) Hope I'm wrong. Again, high floor..one of the safest picks in the draft IMO. I think this is what played into this pick, in THIS draft.
The past draft was mysterious enough that I can't predict anything other than Topic definitely won't win ROTY. And Sarr isn't ready offensively.
You think if Sheppard had joined the Wizards getting 30+ minutes as a starter and had the green light to shoot, he wouldn't win ROY this season?
Not arguing whether Sheppard is super talented or not but wanted to make the point that if he is as good as we all think he is, and he is on that crappy roster in D.C., the defenses are going to collapse on him like crazy. I don't think he is ready for that level of attention in the NBA.
A big part of that may be due to the fact that we just came off a season where Wembanyama was ROY before he even got drafted. Nothing had been that certain in a long time
I don't think so at all, happens every season. Teams are going to let him shoot and lock down the other 4 players usually. Not to mention he's not selfish so if they collapse, if anyone in this draft can take advantage it would be him. I'm not saying he'll be efficient but ROY doesn't need to be efficient (Banchero, Cade). I think he'd definitely win it.
No. I think he's going to have a problem getting his shot off and handling the ball so much. Especially in that situation.
Oof. You're really going out on a limb here. I think there's a very happy surprise or two waiting for you this season.
I think another reason he will be in the ROTY debate, regardless of minutes, is the confirmation bias of the national media. It seems so many of them have already called him the second coming that I think the Reed colored glasses are going to amplify any success and mute any failures. That said, I hope he wins it regardless because it's nice to have some positive media bias coming our way for once. Call the Ime Udoka factor or whatever but I like it.
Looking at the past few years, the ROY plays around 33 minutes a game. I don't see how Reed comes close to that as a bench player. It will go to a player who starts or at least starts most of the year. I don't know how Reed will even start a game this year barring bad injuries. Even if he starts a few due to injuries I just don't think he'll have the minutes and without the minutes he won't have the stats.
With us, he'll have more space/open looks. We were discussing Washington. Again, though...I hope I'm pleasantly surprised. I see him as a "safe" pick here ...an 8-9 pick in some other drafts. I thought Clingan and Reed had high floors. ( I was REALLY high on Clingan) It would be awesome if I'm totally off..just not as high on him as most. Hopefully that Birdlike BBIQ and shooting will more than make up for defensive, balĺ handling, lateral agility, and height/ reach challenges.
Not necessarily winning Rookie of the Year however I expect him to be in the conversation in the Top 6.
Yeah the only chance I see him getting minutes is injuries AND he shoots like crazy lights out that we have to play him more
That was the days before Ralph & Akeem - you know, the first time the franchise traded away a league MVP..
We're about due for a ROY candidate right? It'd be nice if Reed hit in year one for a change. The Jalen bag of magic beans in year 4 is not so great.
