I will say it one more time, Pedro, while he is a great pitcher, is a wimp. He should have pitched today on 3 days rest. He should have gone to Grady and said "I wanna pitch today" But instead they threw Burkett, who had a snowballs chance in hell of winning, and chose to save Pedro for tomorrow. Only problem is there will be no tomorrow for the Redsox.
Yea, real bright idea to pitch a guy who has only pitched on three days rest once his entire freaking career and also was clearly not at 100% when he last pitched. But the world according to BobFinn* of clutchcity BBS says that you are a p***y for being afraid to get hurt in that situation. Get a clue, please.
Brighter idea to throw Burkett wasn't it? So it's true, Pedro only plays when he is 100%? Thats a wimp in my book for sure. I don't care if he NEVER pitched on 3 days rest. You obviously don't know anything about what a GREAT pitcher (Sandy Koufax) is. A GREAT pitcher pitches (Bob Gibson) when he is not 100%. A GREAT pitcher helps his team win when it counts. What does Pedro's history during the regular season have to do with the playoffs? NOTHING
Oh, okay. You are right bob in that all pitchers should be judged on the standards of pitchers in the 60's and earlier. Tell me something: do you see any pitchers with 15 or more complete games like they had in the '60s? I'll answer it for you...no. Game has changed a lot, Bob, you know that.
I think Pedro should've pitched, but I can understand why he didn't. BobFinn*, how do you know for sure that Pedro didn't ask to pitch today? Good start to the 7th.
Uh, no. I'm sure there have been many instances when players wanted to play but the manager/higher ups thought it best for them not to. Burkett was doing good until the 4th and still would've gotten out of the inning with a lead had it not been for Nomar.
I think they said early in the broadcast that Grady Little had said for days that Burkett was pitching Game 6. And they said that if Pedro really wanted to pitch, he would have gotten that chance. However, being a Sox fan, they have always tried to give him extra rest. With his slight frame and history of injuries to like his shoulder, pitching him today not only makes no sense but would possibly jeopardize his career. Besides, if you had told me that this game would be tied in the 7th, I would gladly take it.
Posada suddenly looks like Mitch Meluskey behind the plate. Haven't heard any f-bombs though. Go Sox.
