They aren't "giving" away the tickets. The Rockets sell the tickets to either a player and/or a sponsor.

Nobody said you don't have the right to b****. Could and Should are two different things. b**** all you want to but just realize that your actions impact how other people view you. If you don't care what other people think of you, isn't it kinda ironic that you are on here complaining what you think about other people all the while not caring what they think about you? What does that say?

I give an applause for the red rowdies, the rockets arent paying them, but they still give all the effort to the team, cheering for them
They have to manage their job/college life and social life around the rockets games, making time to go the toyota center every game, and standing all the game.

The only issue we should have with the rowdies is if any of them aren't really rockets' fans and just sign up for the hell of it.

I think some of them have done that. I think that old dude dressed up as a cowboy with the broom horse is one of those.

Some of the chants, I really really hate.

When Ron Artest was at the line, the best chant they came up with Ron Artest was....

RON ARTEST! RON ARTEST! RON ARTEST!

    00rg, you got another stalker.

The old dude with the broom horse (and I and about 5 other Rowdies) went to Game 7 AT the Staples Center two seasons ago ...at our own expense. In fact, going to that game was his idea. I proudly wore my Red but I didn't get dressed up ...not one of us had on a costume ...except Rowdy Cowboy. He was there with his hat, chaps and broom horse (which security confiscated at the door lol).

We rallied together about 40-50 other random Rocket fans in the front of Staples before the game and were outchanting the Laker fans. We even did a ROMP inside Staples Center as we went to our seats! That was sooooo much fun.

Unfortunately, walking out was not so fun. Lets just say I'm happy none of us got hurt while leaving. Rowdy Cowby had to go back to security to get his stick horse so he got seperated from the rest of us who snuck out a side door. They layed into us pretty bad. He had to go back out the main door BY HIMSELF and was immediately surrounded by at least 1000 fans. Eventually he had to be escorted by police out of there as his safety was in serious jeapardy.

SOOOOOO ....I don't wanna hear crap about how Rowdy Cowboy isn't a real fan. ;)

btw, I stayed at YOYO's house. Thanks again YOYO!

Rowdy Cowboy is a big Rockets fan. He even wore his little cowboy outfit to Disneyworld, which was awesome. He said people thought he was a character. I tried to kind of copy him by wearing my red rowdies shirt to Disneyland Paris. He hasn't been with us much this past year. I think it was because of back problems and his son has muscular dystrophy. This guy is soo nice, and he does so so much for raising money for muscular dystrophy, but you wouldn't know that from what you see. You don't know anything about the rowdies by what you see.

As for the simplicity of the Ron Artest chant, we do that so the players and other fans around us can understand what we are saying. We actually did the "Ron Ron Ron Ron (Artest!)" way more. With 50 people saying the same thing in a noisy arena, the chants have to be short and clear.
would "queensbridge true warrior" have been better?

All rowdies are Rockets fans to some degree. Even if you aren't so much of a Rockets fans when you start, being a rowdy makes you a big time fan. I was an obsessed fan even before the rowdies, and after my 2 years as a rowdy, my fandom has even skyrocketed. This is what I always say, you can be a good rowdy, and a bad rockets fan, and you can be a good rockets fan and a bad rowdy. When it comes to who makes the rowdies, you need the good rowdies over the good rockets fans. Why? Because our purpose is to cheer on the rockets, be rowdy, and lift spirits in the toyota center. You need people who are going to do that well. If we had The top 50 "most knowledgeable rockets fans" who had no energy and just sucked at being a rowdy, you would be dogging on the rowdies for sucking. We don't participate in Rockets trivia challenges. We need the ones who will paint their face, dress up, be dedicated, & cheer the Rockets on even during a blowout or a game against the nets.
I'd say we had a pretty good makeup of knowledgeable rockets fans last season.
But that was last year, there will be a new group on Oct 9. Everyone tries out again.

yeah...i didnt mean being a fan, as in knowing trivia and stats, but being consistently a fan and not a fairweather fan or someone who got called up by a friend on the day of the tryout and they thought it would be cool to do, since they had nothing else going.

I agree mostly with what 00rocketgirl said, except that some people are able to be rowdy as hell on any given day, like tryout day, and that doesnt mean they'll keep it up. That's what i'd be worried about, some fairweather fan, who's simply an attention-w****, getting a spot because of it.

By the way, why not have rowdy profiles somewhere? Perhaps the Rockets coud load them on their site? There would be much more support towards the Red Rowdies if we knew who was involved and what they were doing at the games.

I'll backup Kam, cause I was the one who told him this.

Rowdy Cowboy did tell his story on how he became a Rowdy when I was on the bus trip to San Antonio with the Rowdies for the Nov. game vs. the Spurs in Nov 2007 for the 07-08 season. It kinda ticked me off a bit when he told his story, but then again, we added another fan. He is a passionate fan now, but when he became a Rowdy, he admitted he never step foot in the Toyota Center, if I remember correctly, he just showed up.

I support the Rowdies 100%, if I had the work schedule and energy to be one, I'd tryout. I may disagree with some of the things they do as far as chants etc.. but they're still cool in my book.

Anyone who tries out for the rowdies and isn't too much of a fan, and somehow makes it, flakes out within the first few weeks of the season or they get kicked out for poor attendance. Only true Rockets fan rowdies are really willing to make the whole year commitment. 41 games is a long time to fake.
So yes, we do have those fake fans tryout, some have made it, but I never really got to know them because they are out of the rowdies before I've had a chance to meet them. They are those faces I never see again after the first few games. Believe me, those types irritate me far more than they do to any CF users.

Hard to be a fair weather fan if you make it to all home games in a playoff-less season like last year, show up early and leave late. Last year we probably had the least amount of fair weather fans tryout the rowdies will ever see. Trying out in a season without Yao? Rockets did better this past season than expected.
So yeah, anyone who tries out for the heck of it, almost always flakes out. They are the least willing to change their social calendars around Rockets games.

As for the Rowdy profile idea- love that! I had always envisioned a Rowdy of the week interview, like the RPD, but a rowdy profile idea would be pretty awesome!!!! I'll have to pass that idea on.

I think I remember they had a red rowdy blog somewhere, maybe on Rockets.com? I remember reading about a woman who dressed up as yao ming's foot for the tryout. lol.

Mlwoo, what the Rowdies do isn't by any means a forced tradition. Each Rowdy that makes the team has to be dedicated enough to attend all 41 home games plus the playoffs every season. Nobody in the Rockets organization is forcing them to do anything, they do it out of their own free will and desire. Actually, knowing a lot of the Red Rowdies personally, you would be surprised to figure out that they are either students in college or holding down professional employment in the workforce. As for you saying it doesn't serve a purpose, guys like Shane Battier and Luis Scola among others acknowledge the Rowdies on an every home game basis and Trevor Ariza did it last year. The fifty people that make it also have pride to stand up and cheer win or lose because UNLIKE YOU, they have PASSION for their team and why should the Rowdies stop cheering up 20 or down 30? The Red Rowdies filter ENERGY into the basketball arena that is sorely needed due to the arena being dead on most nights last season. Some of the Rowdies made the trip to San Antonio last year on their own money and free will to support their team win or lose. This tradition won't be put to bed anytime soon so don't sit on your hand waiting for it too happen. Maybe you need to look at the bright side of life and worry less about what you hate in the Rowdies program and do stuff that you enjoy, it isn't healthy to be a madman over something you have no control over.
