Just listened to it. It's okay. I don't think it's going to top Stadium Arcadium which is my favorite RHCP album ever.
I owned all of their albums up until their last one which sucked. I hope this is better but have little hope
That song isnt that great ill wait till the album drops or more songs leak before i judge it oh and stadium arcadium was TRASH
AK always comes up with the most WTF lyrics I swear. There seems to be very little effort ever to make sense or stick with a theme, but in the past on works like Californication & Blood Sugar the melodies are so rich that he can saw whatever and its really just flow and rhythm that act like more of a fourth instrument than actual providing lyrics. With some of the more recent albums its just getting to where it bothers me more and more. "Blow by blow and go away" "Oh what do you say..." "Stumble down to the parking lot" "You got no time for the afterthought" okay.... I just don't really know if RHCP really has much beyond Californication to explore what they haven't already reached with a sound. That was definitely the album they should have ended on. Or taken Stadium Arc. cut it down to a more refined piece on a single album and called it a day. Now they added a piano... cool.. but there is very little different or new sounding. Its been time for RHCP to break up for about 8 years. Kinda makes me sad, but its their band, and they can do what they want if it makes them happy and makes them cash.
some straight haters in here. i like it... its got some old rhcp funk style and new school sound. not really a fan of the transition into the bridge around 3:00 but whatever. im a huge RHCP and frusciante fan but the band has moved on from john... its about time fans do the same. i wasnt a fan of IWY album and this song shows a lot of promise.
i think you can hear some of the atoms for peace influence on this tune. more textures and extra instrumentation, which is not really what they do. imagine flea doing this bassline with atoms for peace and what a totally different song it would have been! i like this new guitar player. i thought the stuff with frusicante got really stale over years. the new dude brought a different energy/vibe to the band and it shows in their music. ive seen some live stuff with him and the dude can play! great combination of technical skill and creativity. anthony had his moments, but he has never been a good lyricist...if you dont agree you can suck my kiss yo!
I think it has to do with mellowing out as you get older. And in their case, quitting the drugs. This is the RHCP I really miss: Spoiler <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jZRdjZFffnQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I read Scar Tissue a long long time ago. Pretty good book. One of the things I remember from it was that Anthony was always very self conscious of his vocals. Well he has got them now, as in vocals over Coldplay as it was said. Hey I get mellow but make good mellow music hahah
