Given that John Kerry got about 40-50,000 at a Portland rally in 2004, I'd guess the vast majority of these people were here to see Obama. It seems like a political rally kind of town.
no, i don't think over 37,500 was there to see the Decemberists. we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one but gifford has already post evidence of what type of venues these guys play. an album from them released in Oct 06 sold 150,000 copies in three months. I understand they're from Portland, but i'm still going to go out on a limb and say they weren't the reason most people were there.
Oh, I fully get it. I just think that the idea that a woman is required to be President in order to address women's inequality issues is bizarre. And demonstrably false, given the country's history.
Well, I can say with great certainty that the majority of people at the Houston rally at TC were there to see the band; or more specifically the drummer, who unfortunately was out of town for that show - much to the dismay of all the LADIES in attendance.
So you would say the same about any advances in equality if Barack Obama is elected, right? That to say it would advance equal rights in this country for Blacks and other minorities would be "bizarre and strange." Oh, that's a terrific argument, Major. Go for it. Impeach Bush.
Not at all. I would, however, say that it is not absolutely required that a black man be President in order to address racial issues or black equity issues. Or, to mirror your argument exactly, I would say that this statement: Black equality can't truly be addressed until a black person is elected President. Is completely untrue, bizarre, and strange.
